Obituary

Bro. Alvernon Collins was born April 6, 1934 in Muskogee, OK to Ruby Mae Knox and Clinton Collins. At an early age, he declared into the Baptist Faith. He recently joined Faith Love Baptist Church, Muskogee, OK and was a faithful and loyal member until his health began to fail. His childhood and school days were spent in Muskogee where he attended Dunbar Elementary School. His father taught him the acts of self-discipline, hard work and other life skills. He was employed for numerous years in the medical custodial field. In 1983 he was awarded "Custodian of the Year" by Muskogee Regional Hospital, currently known as St. Francis of Muskogee, working continuously in the field until his health began to fail.

In 1956 he married the love of his life, Leola Gardner. They were the fifth couple in the family to carry on the tradition of celebrating 50 years or more of marriage. To this union, two children were born, Ferrell Collins of Wagoner, OK and Avery Collins of Muskogee.

A man of several hobbies including his enjoyment of cooking barbeque on holidays and special occasions and not to forget his customary wave to all the cars that passed by his home.

Alvernon departed this life July 3, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

He is remembered by his family – Leola Collins, wife, of the home; two sons, Ferrell Lee Collins of Wagoner, OK, Avery Collins of Muskogee, OK; Cynthia Collins, daughter of California; seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren; Earl Baker, Sr., brother, Muskogee, OK; two sisters, Muskogee, OK and a host of relatives.

A Home Going Service is scheduled, Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 11:00 a.m., Faith Love Baptist Church, 1208 Tamaroa Street, Muskogee, OK; with Pastor Glen Gardner, eulogizing.  Interment will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery, Muskogee, OK.

Visitation will be Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
