Obituary

Arthur Lorenzo Colbert was born July 16, 1926 to Estella and Charlie Colbert in Atoka, OK. He received his formal education at Douglas Elementary School and graduated from Manual Training High School in 1944. During high school, he developed a love of sports. He loved skating. One of the highlights of his junior year was being involved in several skating competitions.

After graduating from high school, Arthur enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. And was honorably discharged in August 1946.
He professed his faith at an early age and was baptized at Ward Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was a Steward and was involved in various ministries and activities of the church for over seventy-five years. Arthur loved the Lord and his church. He was a very active and faithful member, and the longest living member of the church at the time of his demise.

He married Kathryn Drew, to this union two children were born. The marriage was later dissolved and he married Mildred Wakefield Harris and they combined their families.

He was a dedicated and devoted family man. For 16 years he worked two regular jobs, Sunset Inn and later Country Club. Arthur retired after thirty-five years with Veterans Administrative Hospital, now known as Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center. During his leisure time, Arthur enjoyed fishing and camping with his family and friends. He loved cooking. He liked sitting on his front porch and watching people come and go. In all that he did, his family was most important.

Early Sunday morning, January 31, 2016, Arthur was called from Labor to Reward. A thousand beautiful memories of such a precious life will be remembered for his love and generous spirit.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Anthony C. Colbert, uncles and aunts.

Arthurs Celebration of Life will be remembered by his devoted wife, Mildred of 38 years, his daughters, Delphia Webb, Muskogee, OK; Janet Newby, Oklahoma City, OK; Gayla (Gary) Ray, Porter, OK; Lynda (Moses) Washington, Broken Arrow, OK; son, Michael (Anita) Fuller, Dallas, TX; grandsons, Orlandis Webb, Roderic Webb, Anthony T. Colbert, Bryan Colbert, Jason Ray, Michael Ray, Zachary Washington, granddaughters, Lyndsey Ray, Madelyn Washington, great-great nephew, Darrel Richard Thomas, his great granddaughters, Dahjae Fields, Asya Webb, Taylor Webb, Anthoni Colbert, Laylah Webb, his great-grandsons, Moises Barnes, Landis Webb, Kingston Colbert, Kyler Colbert, Jordan Ray, Jaxon Ray, his great-great grandson, Jobias Olfubue, two sisters-in-laws, Maxine and Opaline Drew, one brother-in-law, Wayne Drew, James Brewster, his friend of over 75 years, Los Angeles, CA, a special caregiver Helen Harris, many nieces, nephews, kind and generous friends and his church family, Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church.

A Home Going Service will be conducted Saturday, February 6, 2016, 11:00 a.m., Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church,915 Denison St., Muskogee, OK. Interment will be Monday, February 8, 2016, 12 noon, Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, with military honors performed by the United States Marine Corp.

Visitation will be Friday, 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
