Mrs. Barbara Ross Barrett, age 78, retired LPN, transitioned,
Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Eastar Health System.
Barbara Lee Barrett was born on January 14, 1937, to Gracie and Phil M. Dunn, in Moffett, Oklahoma. The family moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma when she was eight years old. Later Barbara was baptized and attended Macedonia Baptist Church, in Muskogee. She was an active member of the usher board.
Barbara attended Langston elementary and graduated from Manual Training High School, in Muskogee. While at Manual Training she was elected the T&I Queen. She received her cosmetology license, and was a beautician for many years.
She met and married Isreal Ross (deceased), and moved to Richmond, California. In California, she attended Providence Baptist Church. There she served as an usher. After Isreal passed away, she moved back to Muskogee. Barbara worked in the Muskogee Public School System. In 1980, Barbara completed LPN school. She also took other college courses at Connor's State College, in Warner, OK. Barbara worked at Muskogee Regional Medical Center for 17 years. She also worked at Advance Urology Wellness Center, and was a receptionist at Granger House of Winn.
Barbara was a member of many organizations which included: The Eastern Star, NAACP, Golden Rule, and she helped in organizing the Social Savings Club. Barbara also volunteered at the Muskogee Chamber of Commerce Tourist Center. Barbara also helped with the Democratic Party. She was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. There she was vice president of the Women's Missionary Society, Secretary of BTU, and a Deaconess.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alma, and sons Ronald and Lonzo.
She leaves to lament her passing; her loving husband of 11 years, Herman Barrett, of the home in Muskogee, OK; her daughters Tonya (Lionel) Humphrey, of Owasso, OK, Pearlie (Joe) Fipps, of Tulsa, OK, daughters-in-law, Louise Ross, of Tulsa, OK, and Lorraine Ross, of Woodbridge, VA; her sons James (Vera) Ross, of Tulsa, OK, Don Ross, of Tulsa, OK; her sisters Gladys Drummer of Kansas City, KS, Fannie Kay of Oklahoma City, OK; her brother Elder Roosevelt (Gloria) Dunn of Oklahoma City, OK; a caravan of grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends that will cherish her beautiful memory.
A Home Going service will be conducted Saturday, January 31, 2015, 11:00 a.m., Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 622 N. 6th Street, Muskogee, OK; with Elder Roosevelt Dunn, eulogizing. Interment will be Monday, February 2, 2015, 1:00 p.m. in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
