Obituary

On August 17, 1934, a baby girl was born to Lawrence and Verline (Arbuckle) Wilson; they named her Barbara Jean Wilson. She was the oldest of four children. Barbara grew up in Okmulgee, Oklahoma.

She attended school at Lone Tree and Dumbar High School. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age at the Osage Avenue Christian Church in Okmulgee. At the time of her death, she was a faithful member of Union Baptist Church in Grayson, Oklahoma. She served in many capacities: the usher board, choir, mission auxiliary, pastors aid chairman, and culinary department.

Barbara met and married Raymond Tucker, and to this union a son, Raymond, was born and the marriage was later dissolved. Then she met and married the love of her life, Oliver Williams, Jr., and to this union a son, Wendell, was born. Barbara and Oliver shared 58 years together until his death. She worked many years as a book keeper, domestic worker, and a home health worker. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her home. She liked to talk and never met a stranger. Her favorite Bible passage was Psalm 23, favorite gospel song was "Precious Lord," and favorite blues song was "Down Home Blues."

She showed her love of family in many ways. When her sister's life was taken unexpectedly, she took in her five children and raised them as her own.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Verline Wilson; husband, Oliver Williams, Jr.; son, Wendell Williams; grandchildren, Damien Tucker, Kammye Berry, and Brian Jones; and siblings, Nadine Rice, Lawrence Wilson, Jr., and Joyce Lovett.

She is survived by: sons, Raymond Tucker, Sr. (Wendy), of Grayson, Oklahoma, Leo Rice (Debbie) of Hart, Texas, and Vernon Maxwell (Penny) of Marfa, Texas; daughter-in-law, Betty Williams of IXL, Oklahoma; daughters, Ursula Rice of McKinney, Texas and Jacqueline Payne (Willie) of Houston, Texas; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; one-great-great-granddaughter; and a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
