Celebrating the Life of Mr. Bennie Jacob Wright
Wednesday, September 22, 1954, a precious baby boy was born to Thelma Wright. She blessed him with the name Bennie Jacob Wright. He was born in his grandmother's home in Summit, Oklahoma and was the first of five children born to this mother. A few years later his brother Gerald, "Jerry" was born.
Mr. Wright spent his early years of life in Summit, where he began his education at Dubois Elementary School. His family church home was First Baptist Church of Summit.
In 1962, Bennie's family began to grow. After his mother and Mr. Isaiah McBath were united in holy matrimony, the family established a new home in Muskogee, Oklahoma on Tamaroa Street. Bennie and his brother Jerry immediately developed a unique bond with Isaiah's son Donnie. They became brothers for life and their family united with The Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Muskogee. It was here at Shiloh that Mr. Wright confessed his love and hope in Christ and was baptized under the pastorage of Reverend Lee D. Moore. In the providence of God, the marriage union brought forth the welcomed addition of three sons, Toni, Cecil and Isaiah, Jr. this family would become an incredible loving and close-knit family.
Bennie continued his education in the Muskogee Public School District and became a 1972 graduate of Muskogee High School. He enlisted in the United Sates Navy soon after graduation. His brother, Donnie, was already on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Bennie talked about how glad he was to see him when their paths crossed unexpectedly, so far away from home.
The McBath's decided to move to the country, making Summit the family's permanent residence and First Baptist Church of Summit their church home. After Bennie completed his time in the U.S. Navy he returned to the family home. Bennie worked various jobs and devoted much time to raising his dogs. In his leisure he could be found fishing on the pond or joining the family on their regular fishing outings. He loved to reminisce about his travels and adventures and, most often, life on Tamaroa Street.
Several years ago, Bennie suffered a stroke, which in the long term, continued to present him with various health challenges that made normal everyday things difficult. He soon became a resident at University Park Nursing Home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He looked forward to his brothers picking him up for his weekend outings. They were faithfully devoted to this task and continued until Bennie was no longer able to travel. Recently, Bennie celebrated his 68th birthday on September 22, 2022 with his brothers and cousin Joyce, at his side.
Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at 11:50 a.m. Bennie Wright went home in God's warm and loving embrace, with his brother, Cecil at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaiah, Sr. and Thelma Wright-McBath, his grandparents, Verlis and Clara G. Edmond, three brothers, Donnie McBath, Gerald C. Wright, Sr. and Toni R. McBath.
The family Bennie leaves behind to cherish his memory are two brothers, Cecil McBath and Isaiah McBath, Jr., a nephew, Gerald C. Wright, Jr. all of Muskogee, Oklahoma, three great-nieces, Kaila Wright, Hailey Wright of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Laike Wright of Teaneck, New Jersey, an uncle and aunt, Grady and Juanita Wright of Madera, California and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
