On May 9, 1942, Our Heavenly Father, blessed Omar and Bessie (Chapman) Shepherd of Wewoka, OK; with a beautiful baby girl, they named her, Bessie Adell Shepherd. She grew up with five siblings in the home.
Adell as she was affectionately called by family and friends, grew up in Okmulgee, OK. She attended and graduated from the historic Dunbar High School. Adell met the love of her life there, Mr. Matthew Thierry and they were united as one February 14, 1962. This union was blessed with five children in addition to Adell's two other children.
Adell, was a homemaker and worked as a cook at Southern Mansion. She was a Culinary Arts specialist. Anyone that had the pleasure of tasting any of her fine dishes would attest.
She accepted Christ at an early age. Adell would attend Church of God in Christ with her mother as a youth. Later in life, she joined and became a longtime member of New Salem Baptist Church, where she served as head cook, youth director, Sunday School Superintendent, until her health began to fail. She continued to trust and believe in the Lord.
Adell answered the Master's call, January 14, 2017 at St. Anthony Hospital, Oklahoma City, OK.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, two brothers, Isiah and Otis Shepherd and one sister, Betty Jean Pete.
Those left to cherish her everlasting memory, Sgt. 1st Class James (Heidi) Shepherd, Killeen, TX; Arnita "Snoocum' McClendon, Tulsa, OK; Christine "Kitty", Cleve "Mann", Donnell "Harlin", Tony (Jennie) Thierry, all of Okmulgee, OK; and her baby girl, Renee Thierry, Oklahoma City, OK; 27 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren, whom she was crazy about. Adell adopted three boys she loved as well, Johnny Coleman, Alfred Lampkins and Michael (Cheryl) Lewis, 2 sisters, Charlesetta Traylor, Tulsa, OK; and Juanita Anderson, Kansas City, KS; a special friend/sister, Pat Taylor, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will miss her.
