Obituary

Billy Joe Thompson, Jr. was born January 17, 1964, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Billy Joe Thompson, Sr. and Barbara Walker Thompson. He departed this life on August 5, 2025, at his home in Boynton, Oklahoma.


Bill, Jr. attended Boynton Public School, graduating with the class of 1982. Bill was a great basketball player and a very energetic basketball fan. While playing on the Boynton Cardinals 1980 basketball team, a high school championship was won under Coach Jerry Belton. He was also an avid Oklahoma University fan.

Bill Jr. was called to discipleship at an early age at Cherryville Baptist Church in Boynton, OK. He actively served as a Trustee and Sunday School secretary. He loved to lead devotion every Sunday morning under the leadership of Reverend Lacy K. Johnson, Jr.  Remaining connected to the Boynton community, Bill Jr. was a member of the Boynton Alumni Association.  He attended and graduated from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Oklahoma in 1985 where he was recruited to play basketball. He then attended Northeastern State
College in Tahlequah, OK. He later enlisted in the United States Air Force serving 21-years before retiring as a Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) with the rank of Staff Sergeant.


Bill Jr. was a jovial person who loved to laugh and joke around, and was a devoted father to his four daughters. He was preceded in death by two of his loving daughters: Courtney and Lauren; grandparents: Robert and Clara Thompson, and Herbert and Eddie (Syas) Walker. He leaves precious memories, two daughters: Sharon (Wendell) Jones of Gilbert, AZ; Ashlei (Elmer) McDaniel of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his parents: Billy Thompson, Sr. and Barbara (Walker) Thompson of Boynton, OK; his brother: Lester (Sherrie) Thompson of Tulsa, OK; grandchildren: Kalise, Phallon and Romeo Jones, Elmer IV and Kyheir McDaniel; nieces: Koya and Annis Thompson; God grandson: Parick Nero of Oklahoma
City; great God grandsons: Zechariah and Kreyo Nero. A special uncle, Prentice Walker, a special aunt, Patricia (Walker) Goudeau, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

A Home Going Celebration is scheduled, Saturday, August 9, 2025, 11:00 a.m., Rayfield Baptist Church, 601 Indianapolis Street, Muskogee, OK; with Pastor Leroy Walker Sr., officiating. VIEWING before service starting at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Cane Creek Cemetery, Boynton, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
