Obituary

As the sun beamed and was shining brightly, one of God's brightest stars entered into the earthly realm and was delivered into the loving arms of J. W. Ragsdale and Laura (Walters) Ragsdale. Born in Rentiesville, Oklahoma, he was the second eldest child of 5 siblings. Starting with the eldest, Mary Ellen Johnson, then Charles, Isaac, David, and Lois Ragsdale. Years later, his mother moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma and Charles attended Manual Training High School where he played the bass drums in the marching band and graduated with the Class of 1956. Upon graduation, he envisioned a military career. But due to losing his eye at an early age, he was denied entry to military service.

The family united with Metropolitan Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK under the late Rev. Wade Watts. He enjoyed singing in the choir under the direction of his mother. Also at a young age, he developed a passion for quartet gospel music. He sung for over 50 years with the two of the best gospel groups in the Oklahoma area, The Suns of Christ and The Spiritual Harmonizers. Rags as he was also called, will be remembered for singing baritone and holding his key.

Charles was employed and labored at different companies settling at ACME Engineering and Mfg where he retired after 30 plus years of service.

In his personal life, Charles met his wife to be, Myrdlee Olivia Murray in Wagoner, Oklahoma at a school dance. Smitten by love, they were joined together in holy matrimony in 1963. With this union came four kids, Charles Jr., Ira Renea, Harold, and Darryl. Charles was active in his children's activities. He coached little league baseball. He and his wife sponsored a baseball team that helped kids stay off the streets. Often times, he would buy school clothes for neighborhood children. He would always open up his house and provided home cooked meals prepared by his wife to children within the neighborhood. He also had a passion for CB radio. His CB handle was Thunder Chicken and Limping Slim.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.W. Ragsdale, his mother, Laura Ragsdale, his wife, Myrdlee Ragsdale, and sisters, Mary Ellen Johnson and Lois Jean Thurston,

On May 10, 2021, Charles departed this life and transitioned to his heavenly home, leaving behind to cherish his memory: Charles Daniel Ragsdale Jr. of Prince George, VA, Ira Renea McCullough (Gregory) of Gainesville, TX, Harold Jean Ragsdale of Richardson, TX, and Darryl Preston Ragsdale (Felicia) of Los Angeles, CA. Along with a host of 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, his brothers, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
