Charlotte Irving
Jefferson
May 2, 1969 – November 3, 2024
Charlotte Nanette Irving Jefferson was the fifth daughter born to Nathaniel C and Virgie L (Winn) Irving on May 02,1969, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She departed this earth on Sunday, November 03, 2024 with her lifelong friend/soror, Helena Wilson Gadison by her side.
Her religious foundation was established in the A.M.E. Church in Dayton, Ohio. The family eventually moved back to Muskogee in 1977, where she attended Bethel A.M.E Church . Her religious groundwork grew as a member of the church. She was an active member of the YPD (Young People Division ), Youth choir and Sunday School programs. Upon the closure of Bethel A.M.E. Church, her membership evolved back to the roots of her family, the Baptist Church. She joined Rayfield Baptist Church, led by Senior Pastor, Reverend Leroy Walker, until her health began to decline.
In 1997, she married Christopher Scott Jefferson and to this union one blessed son was born: Kollin Ashton. Unfortunately , the marriage was dissolved in 2008. Notably, Kollin is attending Oklahoma State University studying Graphic Design expecting to graduate soon. Seeing Kollin graduate was an important desire of Charlotte's before her passing.
Charlotte was a honor graduate of Muskogee High School, class of 1987, where she excelled academically as a student-leader on campus, a lover of music, and an active member of the band from junior high through high school, playing the cornet for several years. She went on to attend Northeastern University in Tahlequah, OK, graduating in 2006. This is also where she joined the most amazing sorority in the world, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, Eta Sigma chapter on April 27, 1990. Charlotte has been an active and beloved member of the Muskogee Alumnae Chapter until her passing. As a DST legacy, Charlotte was filled with joy knowing her niece, Kayla (Mays) Miller was influenced by her and her mother, Virgie L (Winn) Irving, Kayla's grandmother, to join the organization. Kayla's acceptance /crossing into the Tau Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, this month, on the campus of Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. Charlotte was looking forward to pinning her. Unfortunately, her health didn't allow her this pleasure. We are thankful to Soror Captoria Aldridge Thornton of the Muskogee Alumnae Chapter for agreeing to step-in for Kayla's pinning ceremony, in Charlotte's absence.
Her professional life was filled with success from working in the retail industry, to working in the County Treasurer office and government position over the span of thirty years, with consistent feedback from those that worked alongside her . She was always a joy to be around, a positive , beautiful light in all she did, and extremely thorough, thoughtful, and efficient in how she performed her work and engaged with others. Charlotte also enjoyed attending live concerts, traveling, spas, shopping, jewelry and spending time with family and cherished friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, Virgie Winn and Nathaniel Irving; and two sisters who died in infancy, Natalia and Arlea.
Leaving to celebrate her life: her son Kollin A Jefferson of Muskogee, OK; two sisters, Kimberly (Irving) Cooper and Valerie (Irving) Mays (Franklin), both of Norman, OK; nieces and nephews, Thomas, Mikell(Kim), Evan, Kayla (Chuckie), and Kiara, and six great nieces and nephews, plus a number of aunts, uncles, and a host of beautiful cousins and cherished friends.
A Home Going Celebration is scheduled Saturday, November 16, 2024, 1:00 p.m., Rayfield Baptist Church, 601 Indianapolis Ave., Muskogee, OK; with her Pastor Leroy Walker Sr., eulogizing.
