Clyde "Sonny"
Brown, Jr.
May 6, 1957 – August 18, 2024
Clyde (Sonny) Brown Jr. was born on May 6, 1957, to the union of Clyde Brown Sr. and Helen (Shine) Brown in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He was the third and only son of nine born to this union.
Clyde Brown Jr.'s journey on earth ended peacefully on August 18, 2024; but his legacy continues. He touched many lives with his kindness and generosity.
At an early age Sonny attended Rayfield Baptist Church and later moved his membership to Greater Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Sonny attended Douglas Elementary School, Alice Robertson Junior High School and graduated from Muskogee High School in 1975. Sonny worked alongside his father at "Brown Father and Son," an auto repair shop he and his father ran together.
Sonny met and fell in love with Debra Ousley while in Junior High School and they were married for 47 years. Debra was the love of his life, and she was by his side faithfully during his illness and spent their final anniversary on July 31, 2024, at their home. Sonny loved his wife with an unconditional kind of love that is rare these days. Debra was not just his wife but was his best friend. Whenever you see one you will certainly see the other.
Sonny worked for the City of Muskogee for over 27 years with his last position being Supervisor in the Public Works Department until his health failed him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Clyde Brown Sr. and Helen Brown, Sister Charlene Gilyard, Son-in-law Timothy McGee, and several nephews. Sonny leaves to cherish his memory Wife Debra (Ousley) Brown; Daughters Tyra McGee, Alrika (George) Collins, and Son Chris (Tobi) Brown; Many children that they fostered including Hayden of the home. Sisters Joyce Richardson, Patricia Rouse (Mitch), Charlotte Ward, Vickie Ragsdale, Terri Howell (Donald) of Muskogee, OK; Elizabeth Ann Brown-Hill of Oklahoma City and Kimberly Ausby (Don) of Texas; Darlene Wilson of Muskogee, OK; Brothers Stanley (Sharryne) Brown of Broken Arrow, OK, Michael Stout of Oklahoma City, OK and Gary Coleman of Muskogee, OK. His Mother-in-law Alfretta Ousley, one Sister-in-law Audrey Gayle Granger and Brothers-in-law Edwin (Nancy) Ousley, Alfred Ousley, Reggie (Katrin) Ousley, Brian (Debi) Ousley and Daryl Ousley. A host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and a special friend Laroy Manns.
The Sonny most of you knew was that of a cowboy in a pair of stylish cowboy boots, starched blue jeans and a blue plaid shirt. His love of the rodeo and horses began at an early age due to his dad being a cowboy. Sonny and his son competed in many rodeos over the years as steer wrestlers. His son Chris and grandson Bradley will continue his rodeo legacy. His family meant the world to him.
Sonny's laid-back personality, kindness and generosity will be remembered by those he leaves behind. He was a true example of what it meant to be a cowboy, husband, father, and grandfather.
