Deacon James
E. Hicks Sr.
February 24, 1943 – March 4, 2025
Deacon James Hicks, the eldest child of Ennis and Elvie (Johnson) Hicks was born February 24, 1943 in Paris, TX.
Deacon James Hicks attended Baldin Elementary and Gibbons High School, where he was the "star" football player for the Gophers.
Deacon Hicks accepted Christ at an early age, at Ebeneezer AME, under the pastorage of Rev. Dempsey Loyd and Siter Elnora Nash.
After graduating from Gibbons High School, James matriculated to Oklahoma City, OK; where he was employed with Southwest Foundry. Later in life he gained employment with Bama Pies, Boeing Aircraft and eventually retiring from Sun Oil Company.
He moved from Tulsa, OK; to Haskell, OK; where he met and married the love of his life, Alice Marie Grayson on a beautiful day May 14, 1986.
Deacon Hicks enjoyed life to the fullest, especially attending church services, watching sports and dining whether in their home or at restaurants.
Eventually, Deacon Hicks would move his membership to The Church of The Living God under the direction of Pastor O.G. Higgs. He was a faithful member until his health began to decline.
He answered the Master's call, March 4, 2025.
Those preceding him in death are his parents, his son, Thurston Hicks, his siblings, Ennis Rosevelt, Barbara Hall, Charles, Alfred, Haskell Hicks, Martha Ann Hicks and Ralph Hicks.
Deacon Hicks leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Alice Hicks of the home, his children, Constance Hicks, Oklahoma City, OK; Roshelle Miller, Houston, TX; James Hicks, Jr. Oklahoma City, OK; Corey Hicks, Tulsa, OK; Donnie Hicks, Tecumseh, OK; his siblings, Mary Jane Harmon, Paris, TX; Mary Joyce, Longview, TX; Cleta Hicks, Paris, TX; and a sister-in-law, Anita Hicks, Paris, TX; along with numerous relatives and friends that will miss him.
A Home Going Service is scheduled Saturday, March 15, 2025, 11:00 a.m., House of Winn Funeral Home, "Precious Memories Chapel" 2200 Military Blvd., Muskogee, OK; with Minister Melody Cranford, offering Words of Comfort.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
