Obituary

On May 16, 1945, a baby boy was born to Volna T. Bowens Sr., and Ethel M. Bowens. He was named Volna Theodore Bowens, Jr. he was the 3rd of 6 children.

He was educated at L'ouverture School, Meridian, Oklahoma and graduated Faver H. S., Guthrie, OK with the class of 1963.

Von Bolo as he was affectionately called by family and friends was a long time employee of Acme Engineering. He retired from Acme in 2006. He was an avid landscaper and would do anything else for anybody. He was always a helping hand. He also worked at Ragsdale Funeral Center, then House of Winn as a funeral attendant.

Deacon Von was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School, President of Usher Board, Brotherhood and Brotherhood Chorus, as well as choir member. He helped to do anything that was needed at the church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Volna and Ethel Bowens. His sister, Romaine Clark, his daughter, Cassaundra Webb, and his son, Richard Wade.

He was previously married to Lynn Wade, to that union was Richard Wade, Vincent, Volna, Ronald and Steven Bowens. This union was later dissolved.

He then married Patricia Webb, and became stepfather to Cassaundra Webb and father to Kamaria N. Bowens. Patricia preceded him in death January 2003.

On September 2, 2006, he married his present wife, Carolyn McDaniel Bowens. They remained faithful until Von's passing, December 16, 2023.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn Bowens, daughter, Kamaria N. Bowens, Muskogee, OK; Bonus daughter, Angela D. Jones, Las Vegas, NV; Sons: Vincent (Alethea) Bowens, Aurora, CO, Volna (Sherry)Bowens, Bethlehem, GA, Ronald Bowens, Muskogee, OK, Steven Bowens, Powder Springs, GA; Bonus son, Elmer McDaniel III (Asheli), Broken Arrow, OK; Siblings: Lorraine Boyles, Flint, MI, Vernal (Rhonda) Bowens, Guthrie, OK, Clarice (Hobert) Jordan, Wichita, KS, Janice (Hubert) Jordan, Wichita, KS; Grandchildren: Devonta, Vincent Jr., Clayton, Devon, Ashley and Kassaundra (KC); Bonus Grandchildren: India, Bobby, Elmer IV, and Khyeir; also, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and special friends.

A Celebration of Life is scheduled, Saturday, December 30, 2023, 11:00 a.m., Harvest Ministries Church, 2200 E Okmulgee St, Muskogee, OK; with his pastor, Rev. David Ragsdale Jr. delivering the eulogy.  Interment will follow in Booker T. Washington Cemetery, Muskogee, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
