Delois Cullom, 88, retired food service, a resident of Muskogee, OK; transitioned, Monday, February 9, 2015 in Cornerstone Hospital, Muskogee OK.
The book of life opened for Delois Kathryn McDaniel on March 8, 1926, as God's bundle of joy to Dennis and Channie McDaniel. Delois attended Coal Creek School and Wheatly Elementary School in Boynton, Ok. She later met and married Dewey B. Cullom, Sr. to this union ten children were born.
After moving to Muskogee, OK; Delois worked for several companies. She worked for Service Cab Company, Oklahoma Children's Center, Muskogee Public Schools and Lloyd E. Rader Center. After retirement, Delois or "Big Mama", as her family affectionately called her, became a foster grandparent. She had a love for children and her home was always open. Finding a church home to work for Christ, she joined Rayfield Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess until her health would no longer allow. She loved life, family and music. There will always be a special place in the hearts of those who truly knew her.
The book of life closed for Delois on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Cornerstone Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dennis and Channie McDaniel, her husband, Dewey Cullom Sr., brother, Cecil McDaniel and sister, Vieva Williams. Also preceding her in death, were two daughters, Audrey and Roselyn and two sons, Fred And Novis.
Leaving to cherish her memory are her daughters, Yvonne Hughes and Cecelia Grayson-Linex, both of Tulsa, OK; Deborah (Morris) English of Muskogee, OK; sons, Dewey B. Cullom Jr. Detroit, MI; Ellwyn (Gigi) Cullom, Tulsa, OK; and Bernus (Linda) Cullom of Hominy, OK; a special nephew raised as a son, Olatheaus (Sharla) McDaniel Jr. Muskogee, OK; sister, Lovetta Smith, Kansas City, MO; brother, Christopher McDaniel, Chino Hills, CA; Harold (Lois) McDaniel, Harbor City, CA; and Olatheaus (Rita) McDaniel Sr. Sioux City, IA; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, February 21, 2015, 10:00 a.m., Rayfield Baptist Church, 601 Indianapolis Street, Muskogee, OK; with Rev. Leroy Walker, Sr., eulogizing. Interment will follow in Doyle Cemetery, Yahola, OK.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
