Obituary

My journey into life began June 16, 1955. My younger brother, Darrell and younger sister, Vicky were blessed to come from the loving union of Alex and Georgia Ann Reed.

My parents introduced me to Christ at a young age as I attended New Zion Baptist Church.  Growing up on 3rd Street, I fell in love with playing sports and competing against all my friends and family in the neighborhood, especially teaming up with my cousin/brother, Rocky and my other cousin/brother, Gary and we would beat everyone in everything imaginable.

After attending Manual Training High School and Muskogee High School, I graduated as a proud Okay Mustang.  While attending Okay High School I found the love of my life, Velma Robbins and married her on March 24th, 1973.  To our union we were blessed with six children, Derrick Jr., Valarie, Alex, Olivia, Jabriel and Jamillah (the twins).

After graduating high school and gaining employment with a few companies, I enlisted in the United States Air Force.

I served my country honorably for four years.  After I was discharged I returned to Oklahoma and began employment at Ft. Howard/Georgia Pacific and also at the Veterans Administration.

I went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 13th 2018, as my parents welcomed me to Glory.

The legacy of Derrick A. Reed Sr. left to cherish his memory and now live through my wife, Velma, my oldest son, Derrick Jr. and Chasity, my oldest daughter, Valarie and Tony, my son, Alex, my daughter, Olivia, my son Jabriel and Kimberly and my baby girl, Jamillah.

My oldest grandchild, Savannah, grandsons, Tristen, Jordan, Ashton, Leighton, and granddaughter, Jordyn, my brother, Darrell, and my sister, Vicky, along with a caravan of brother and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, special cousins and great friends.

In closing (in Daddy Reed's voice) All Praise to Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

A Memorial Service is scheduled Saturday, April 21, 2018, 1:00 p.m. Okay High School Gymnasium, 8611 N. 49th Street E., Muskogee, OK; with Rev. John Tottress, offering words of comfort. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Gibson Station, OK.
