Doris J.
Jones
August 9, 1947 – September 12, 2019
During the summer of August 1947 Louis and Ruth Jones-Sells celebrated the birth of their third child on the 9 th, they named this bundle of joy Doris Juliette. Doris was reared in the Muskogee County Area and attended Tullahassee public schools at Woodson and graduated with Carters Class of 1965. She loved cheerleading during her high school days.
Doris had an awesome love for God from a youth. She was a faithful member of Fountain Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor William Brown.
One of the greatest highlights in Doris' life was meeting Bobby Lee Chatman and giving birth to her only child Sherry Dionne. Nothing could compare to the joy that she had becoming a grandmother to her grandson Kinon Leon. He was the icing on her cake, the puddin in her bead, it didn't stop here, the joy continued to flow when Kinon made her a great grandmother with his two sons Kinon Jr. and Ki`Andre. The bible says a three cord strand is not easily broken and this love could not be torn.
Doris loved her family and was the life of the parties. She loved singing and was a member of the Heavenly Echoe's singing group. One of her favorite songs was "Redeemed". Doris worked tirelessly until her health began to fail. She was employed with Gateway Home Health for over twenty years. She also worked for the Tulsa Public Schools. Many of us will never forget due to we had to get passes to class from her.
On September 12, 2019 there was a Great Roar in Heaven. Doris' younger brother Julius was celebrating his birthday and sought to come get his big sister to join him with a heavenly host of family members which included her mother and father Louis and Ruth Jones; her sisters Margaret, Lanita, Bonita Faye and Louise; her brother Bruce and many other family members was awaiting to greet her.
She leaves to cherish her earthly memories her daughter Sherry (Everette) Gardenhire; her grandson, Kinon Leon Chatman; her two great grandsons, Kinon Leon Chatman Jr. (Lil Kinon) and Ki`Andre Chatman; her two sisters, Vassie Brenda Jones and Debra Jones; her brother Thurman (Margaret) Jones; granddaughters, Ebony, Evelyn and Latricia; grandson Jamal; her sister in law Elrena Reed and a very close cousin like her brother, Emery Miller (Chuckle). Many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Although we will miss Doris tremendously we know to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
Rest on Doris
