August 16, 1937, Doris Jean Gilford was born to Jeff and Della (Birdsong) Gilford. She was the last of 11 children. She accepted Christ at an early age and graduated from Lincoln High School in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
Doris was united in marriage to McCoy Matthews, Jr., May of 1957, within that union a son Jeff Matthews and daughter Linda Matthews was born. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother and grandmother.
Doris brought a lot of joy and happiness to many people's lives. Everyone she came in contact with loved her instantly.
Doris passed away, February 26, 2024
Doris was passionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic, and maintained her sharp wit and beautiful spirit until her passing. She was never at a loss for good solid advice and compassion and will be greatly missed by those who loved her company. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 46 years McCoy, Jr. her parents, 6 brothers, 4 sisters. She leaves to mourn her passing Jeff Matthews (Elizabeth Brown), Linda Matthews, her granddaughter Fawn Matthews -Sullivan and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.

Graveside Rites will be performed at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, 1423 Cemetery Rd., Ft Gibson, OK; Monday February 26, 2024 at 10:00 am, Rev. Larry Cato offering Words of Comfort to the family. Visitation will be Sunday 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the Matthews family asks that you make a donation to National Kidney Foundation in honor of Doris Jean Matthews
