Obituary

Earl W. Brackeen was born in Muskogee, OK on February 8, 1930 and was the second of Augustus C. Brackeen and Lula Perkins Brackeen.

Earl attended Langston Elementary School and was a 1947 graduate of Manual Training High School. He was a 1951 graduate of Langston University.

After graduation, he taught at Carthage High School in Carthage Arkansas for one year. He was the drafted into the United States Army where he served from 1952 to 1954. He received an honorable discharge. Earl began working for the Veterans Administration Regional Office. He retired from the Adjudication Department after 32 years of service. He felt like he had to keep busy, so he started working for Ft. Howard Paper Company and then Walmart.

Earl met and married Josephine Irving on December 1, 1957. To their union three children were born: one daughter and two sons-June, William and Michael.

Earl was a devoted husband, father and most of all, a servant of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He became a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully until the Lord called him home.

Earl taught the Adult Sunday School class, served as Director of the Baptist Training Union, Chairman of the Deacon Board, and as a member of the Trustee Board. He also was Church Treasurer and Brotherhood Secretary for many years. He also sang in the Senior Choir and Brotherhood Chorus.

He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

Earl loved the Lord and mankind. He was always giving assistance to those in need. He also enjoyed playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Thomas, and his daughter, June Deshazer.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 63 years and 11 months (Josephine), two sons, William E. Brackeen, Edmond, OK and Michael R. Brackeen (Debra), Muskogee, OK, one brother, Rogers L. Brackeen, Towson, MD, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, three sister-in-law's, Charlene Evans, Frankie Brewer, and Mary Brackeen, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his church family.

A Home Going Celebration for Earl William Brackeen, will be conducted, Monday, November 8, 2021 at 12 Noon in Oasis Community Church, 800 W. Peak Blvd.  Muskogee,OK. with Pastor Larry H. Smith of Macedonia Baptist Church, Muskogee,OK, eulogizing.  Interment will follow in Ft Gibson National cemetery.  Public visitation, Sunday, November 7th in Precious Memories Chapel/House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee, during the hours of 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M.
