Mr. D' Earl Davis

Sunrise: November 21, 1930 – Sunset: April 28, 2020

On November 21, 1930, Preston and Hester Davis welcomed into the world the first of eight children born into this union. They affectionately named him David Earl Davis. He was simply called Earl.

Earl attended Adair public schools graduating in with the class of 1947. After graduation, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma. While living in Tulsa , Earl found gainful employment as a printer at Starr Printing. He later became a self-taught brick mason. He used his talent to build many churches and homes. One church he was very instrumental in building was Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Haskell, Oklahoma.

Earl met and married Betty. To this union four children were born, Jerry, Pamela, Dennis and Faye. One adopted son, named Earl. The marriage was later dissolved.

In 1974, Earl met the love of his life, Lelia Smith-Foley. They were married in 1977. He gained three more daughters, Kasandra, Starla and Canzaty, and two sons, Mark Everett and Derrick Wade. This union lasted for more of 43 years.

Helping people, fishing and hunting were what Earl loved to do in his spare time. He had two best friends, Joe (Etha) Robinson and Robert Walker who preceded him in death.

Meeting Earl at Heaven's gate will be his parents Preston and Hester Davis; sons, Dennis Davis, Mark Everett Smith; one daughter, Faye Dugan; granddaughter, Becky Dugan; grandson, David Lewis; brothers, Houston, Preston Jr. and Abraham; sisters, Gladys and Delphine .

Cherishing his memory is his wife of 43 years Lelia Davis of the home; sons, Jerry (Jean) Davis of Bunch, OK; Derrick Smith of Taft, OK, Russell Spiller (Nephew) he calls son of Mustang, OK; daughters, Pamela Lewis of Tahlequah, OK, Kasandra (Daren) McGee, Starla (Ricci) Phillips, Canzaty (Vincent) Thompson all of Taft, OK; two sisters, Nadine Spillers of Mustang, OK, Phillis Johnson of Cameron, OK; two brother-in-law's, Floyd (Edwina) Smith of Taft, OK, Sylvester (Alice) Smith of Tulsa, OK; four sister-in-law's, Rillastine Wilkins of Muskegon, MI, Canzaty Cullom and Emma Joyce Gaines of Tulsa, OK, Joyce Davis of Sallisaw, OK; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

A Service of Memory will be conducted, Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. in the Taft Resource Center, Taft, OK with Rev. Anthony Folks, eulogizing.  Visitation, Friday, May 15,2020 in Precious Memories Chapel during the hours of 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.

The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee.
