Obituary

Mrs. Eddie Walker, age 96, a long time resident of Boynton,OK
passed away in her home, Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, surrounded by family.

The book of life opened for Eddie Syas on November 18, 1918; the 7th of fourteen children born to Leroy and Alberta Rue Syas, in Wetumka, OK.

The family later moved to Okmulgee, OK where she would meet her life-long love, Leo Herbert Walker, Sr. The couple married November 30, 1937 and moved to the Boynton area establishing roots in the Cane Creek community. To this blessed union seventeen (17) children were born. Sis. Walker accepted Christ, and was united and active with Cane Creek Baptist Church, Community Baptist Church, which later merged with Simmons Chapel Baptist Church. After the passing of her husband she united with Rayfield Baptist Church under the pastorage of her son, Rev. Leroy Walker, Sr.

Sis. Walker's hands were never idle. Her occupation was Homemaker in the truest sense of the word. In addition to all the duties of caring for a large family, she especially found enjoyment in sewing and baking, being well known for her famous coconut cake. She could often be heard humming and singing hymns in the kitchen while preparing meals for her family. Her favorite saying was "I thank God I'm still alive."

Her love for the Lord was demonstrated in her gracious service to others. Her giving spirit and generosity overflowed into the community as she would provide meals for community sick and shut-ins, which could be described as "MEALS ON HEELS" since the kids had to walk the plates to the destinations.

Sis. Walker's door was always open and her home would become the community gathering place. She somehow managed to feed all who were there at dinner time by adding another cup of water to the pot. Her children recall her allowing a sick neighbor to temporarily move in and recover - original Home Health Care. Sis. Walker also had a low key sense of humor and could be very comical.

Sis. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Alberta Syas; husband, Leo Herbert Walker, Sr.; four (4) children: Ruby Walker-Wilson, Alonzo, Mary, and John; nine (9) sisters: Gustava, Alberta, Charity, Josephine, Louise, Luvenia, Margie, Leona, and Lorene; four (4) brothers: L.C., Nicholas, Harry, and Leroy.

Mother Eddie Walker will be immeasurably missed by her loving family consisting of six (6) generations! Six (6) sons and seven (7) daughters: Leo Herbert, Jr. (Wilma), Barbara (Bill) Thompson, Norma (Johnnie) Cannady, Edna (Rufus – deceased) Presley, Saundra (Quinton) Harrison, Leroy (Clara), Herman (Gloria ), Raymond (Mia), Larry Cornelius (Marva), Alverta (Craig) Sherrill, Debra (Ronnie) Kelley, Prentice (Yolanda), and Patricia (Marvin) Goudeau. Sister-in-law, Addie Walker, 52-Grandchildren, 74-Great Grandchildren, 45-Great Great Grandchildren, and 1-Great Great Great Grandchild.
