Obituary

On Sunday, October 24, 1948, a baby boy was born to Mack and Mildred Sample. They named him Edward Moton Sample. He grew up in the New Hope Community and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church under the pastorage of Rev. W. E. McGill. He attended school in New Hope and later started High School and graduating from Manual Training High School, class of 1966.

He worked at Harden's Fried Chicken as a Fry Cook and later Dupont/Uponor for seventeen years as an Extruder Machine Operator. Edward joined the Marines in 1968 where he later was deployed to Vietnam. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Combat Action Ribbon. When discharged, his rank was CPL. E4, Specialty as a Rifleman. He served his country proudly, he loved spending time with family and friends. He loved driving and traveling using his CB handle, "Tulsa Cat Fish". His passion was fishing and he loved watching his favorite sports team on TV. In 2007 he went to COPP's Residential Care Facility, Claremore, OK where he remained until his death.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother and 1 sister.

Those left behind to cherish his memories are: wife, Ella Mae Sample; son, Edward Jr. (Toni); daughter, Toya Yelverton all of Memphis, TN, daughter, Stephanie (Victor) Talton, Tulsa, OK, son, Bryant Sample, Glenpool, OK; brothers, Robert (Beverly) Sample, John (Arnee) Sample, Marvin Sample, Leon (Janice) Sample; sisters, Maxine Alexander and Betty Cotner; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Home Going Service is scheduled Saturday, February 3, 2018, 11:00 a.m., New Hope Baptist Church, Oktaha, OK. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Oktaha, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, February 2, 2018, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
