Obituary

Ellen Greenleaf Colbert was born November 21, 1941 at Pierce, Oklahoma to Pauline Greenleaf and Ragle "Blue Boy" Warrior. Ellen was the oldest of all her brothers and sisters. Ellen attended Warrior Grade School and attended Pierce High School. Ellen met and married Bilo Williams, and to this union three children were born, Estelle, Pauline, and Ronica. Their marriage was later dissolved.

Ellen worked for Checotah Nursing home for about 15 years in the custodial department. She worked for Checotah Public Schools for many years as a cafeteria worker and she held other numerous small caretaker jobs. Due to declining health, Ellen had to retire from all employment.

Ellen was baptized and was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Checotah, OK and she served as Church Usher and church custodian. Ellen loved children, fishing, picking pecans and digging wild onions in her pastime. She was a lover of her snuff, Strong Garrett Snuff. She never met a stranger and was always laughing and teasing people. She loved having fun and being with her family.

She later met and married Eugene E. Colbert. Due to her declining health, she was admitted to Pleasant Valley Nursing Center in 2016. She leaves to mourn her passing: daughters, Estelle Gray and Ronica Williams of Muskogee, sisters, Mildred Burkhalter of Rentiesville, Estelle Francis of Dewar, two sisters in Phoenix AZ, and step sister, Beatrice Brooks of Battle Creek, Michigan, 5 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Those preceding her in death: husband Eugene Colbert, daughter, Pauline, granddaughter, Romaine, her parents Pauline and Ragle, her stepfather, Alton Hemphill, grandparents, two sisters, Rosie Hutton, Mary Magdalene Chiles, two brothers, Raymond and Jackson Dan.

Graveside Services will be conducted,Wednesday, February 10, 2021, 1:00 p.m., in Oktaha Cemetery, Oktaha, OK with Rev. Donald Brown, eulogizing.  Public visitation, Tuesday Feb. 9th in the Precious Memories Chapel/House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee, during the hours of  11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Home-Muskogee.
