Obituary

Rev. Elwood Jones, age 55, a resident of Beggs,OK, answered the Masters Call to come home, on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 in the
Creek Nation Medical Center in Okemah,OK.

Reverend Elwood Bo Jones was born May 11, 1959 to the parents of Leila, and Melvin Jones in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dad is preceded in death by his mother and father, and his sister Melva Johnson.

Elwood Jones was alumni of the McClain "Scotts" high school, class of "77". He mimicked the basketball player of Julius Erving (Dr. J) with a cold slam dunk he called "The spine chiller gorilla!" Dad loved the game of basketball alongside his classmate, teammate, and friend Alvin "Juice" Pearson. After high school dad enlisted in the United States Army, and was honorably discharged. He attended culinary school at Oklmulgee Tech. Then, dad became a professional truck driver, which was his career for many years. Elwood was also a member of Tulsa Big Wheels Motorcycle Club, Tulsa, OK.

Elwood settled his family in Preston Oklahoma with his wife Mornin Denise Starr of 14 years. Elwood accepted Christ in his life and became a member of the Jerusalem Baptist Church of Preston Oklahoma. Dad was called to preach and sister Lena Jones was his mentor. Shortly after dad became the minister of the Harris Chapel Baptist Church of Baldhill, Oklahoma. Rev. Jones has four children, Joseph Jones, Julia Jones, Jared Jones, and Alicia Glover which he loved dearly. His favorite saying to us all was "Don't be a fumbler", and remember to obey God. His sister Lynette Stansell was his best friend, he could call on her anytime. Dad spent his final days with his girlfriend Quanita Wilkinson, and was truly happy.

Elwood Jones leaves behind his sister, Lynette Stansell, Los Angeles ,CA; aunts, Edith Marie Holmes, Altadena, CA; Ella B. Elam, and Ola Elam, uncle , Tony Elam all of Tulsa, OK; who are the elders of the Jones family, his children, Joseph (Sonya) Jones, Twin Hills, OK; Julia Jones, Jared Jones, and Alicia Glover all of Tulsa, OK; 20 grandchildren, 3 step children, Latosha Starr, Aaron Starr, and Steven Starr along with a host of relatives, and friends.

A Home Going Service will be conducted, Saturday, April 11, 2015, 1:00 p.m., First Baptist Church South, 8150 E. Highway 16, Beggs, OK; with Rev. Maurice M. Williams, eulogist, Interment to follow in Tuskegee Cemetery, Edna, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
