Emma Jean Montgomery, age 91, passed away peacefully October 19, 2020. She was born January 28, 1929 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Bell and Anna Mitchell Sr. She married her longtime friend Edgar "Post" Allen Montgomery on October 11, 1947 who preceded her in death 1989.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Allen Montgomery Sr. "Post" of Okmulgee, OK parents, Bell and Anna Mitchell Sr. of Okmulgee, Ok., Daughter, Veronica Elaine Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, Daughter, Jean Lorraine Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, Son, Edgar Allen Montgomery Jr. "Big Ed", Sister, Lenora Sharp "Tutta" of Okmulgee, Ok, Sister, Avadna Mitchell "Dimple" of Okmulgee, OK, Brother, Vernon Mitchell "Son" of Okmulgee, OK, Brother, Arvester Mitchell "Vester" of Okmulgee, OK, Sister, Mable Foster "Baby Doll" of Okmulgee, OK, and Brother, Bell Mitchell Jr. "Bubba" of Okmulgee, OK.
Emma Jean loved to love her family. She was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She loved her role as grandma and mother. She had a selfless personality and always made people around her feel at ease. Her family described her as: The Monarch, Faithful, Trustworthy, Blessed, Kind, Giving, and Loving.
Her love for cooking was always a topic of conversation during the holidays. She was known for her German Chocolate Cakes and Sweet Potato Pies. She had a knack for bring all the kids together for a common goal.
After 20+ years she retired from cooking in the nursing home. She went into being a Foster Care Mother. Throughout her time being a Foster Care Mother, she took in Emergency and Long-term children, sometimes in groups of 3 so that the children wouldn't be separated. In her 10+ years in the system she took in over 20+ children who she cared and loved for. Her love continued on as she chose to adopt 3 sisters in the early 2000s. Her Love knew no bounds when it came to children.
Her life was a living example of her favorite Bible verse, Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
Emma Jean Montgomery is survived by her children Valerie Harris of Okmulgee, OK, Joyce Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, Pamela (Vincent)McGee of Okmulgee, OK, Desiree (Ron) Goudeau of Catoosa, OK, Cecilia Montgomery of California, Leila Mae Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK, and Victoria Montgomery of Okmulgee, OK. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and her many other relatives and friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Friday, October 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. in the Precious Memories Chapel at House of Winn Funeral Home-Okmulgee, with minister Ronald Smith, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation, Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020 beginning at 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.
