Erma Jean
Goode
March 13, 1937 – September 27, 2023
March 13, 1937, Leroy and Rosie (Brown) Hearn brought into this word their eleventh child, a beautiful baby girl. They gave her the name of Erma Jean.
Erma grew up in Boynton, Oklahoma with her siblings, CJ, Theodore, Eyvine, LaFayette, Willie, David, Jerry Minnieola, and 2 sisters she did get the chance to meet.
If anyone knew Erma, they knew she loved her flowers and house plants. Anytime Erma could get a chance to come to town she could be found in the garden center of Walmart, Lowe's or even Googling where she could purchase a plant/flower to how to care for them. When she lived in Taft, Erma may not have known she was known as the plant-lady by the young ladies.
Over Erma's life, she worked at the Mayo Hotel, Black's Nursing Home, Private homes taking care of elderly, BIO's and VOA working with the disabled.
In 1977 Erma became ill and had to decide to live the worldly life or follow the path of the Lord. Erma chose to follow the path of the Lord and she did it faithfully. Erma had daily prayer hours at 2:00 p.m., 5:00 p.m. and during the early morning hours. She read her Bible daily, had weekly group phone prayer and enjoyed attending Sunday School and Church. If there was anyone that needed prayer, Erma would get her prayer warriors together and they prayed. Erma also prayed before she made any decision.
Erma was a kind and loving person. She never met a stranger or there wasn't ever a time that she wouldn't help someone. She had to be reminded that you can't always give or donate from the word or call of someone saying they needed help.
In the early morning hours of September 27th, 2023, the Lord God, in His infinite wisdom dispatched His angels and called His faithful servant home. Meeting Erma at those pearly gates in Heaven are her 2 baby girls, her parents, her 11 siblings, and those that she cared for, Essie Hill and Mrs. Freeman.
Erma leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy. She leaves her son Leroy (Carolyn) Mailes, her God-sent children Dannetta (Richard) Tate, Delilah Payne, Martin (Lanica) Lang, a special niece, Angel Harrison, a special sister, Evelyn Freeman Burkhalter, special friends, Alberta Paschal, Linda Cherry, Lelia Fullbright, Mt. Zion Church Family, Cherryville's Church Family and a host of relatives and friends.
A Service of Memory will be conducted on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 125 N 1st St, Boynton, OK. Interment will follow in the Brown Cemetery, Boynton, OK. Public visitation will be held on Friday, September 29th in the Precious Memories Chapel, House of Winn Funeral Home, 2200 Military Blvd, Muskogee, OK during the hours of 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
