Mrs. Eunice L. Mackey-Nunley
Her Genesis
Mrs. Eunice L. Mackey was born on July 13, 1932, to Robert and Heniretta Mackey, Sr., in one of Oklahoma's Historical All Black Towns, Taft, Oklahoma, and grew up in the town of Beland, OK. She attended Taft Public Schools and she was a graduate of Moton High School class of 1950.
Growing up, Eunice knew about the love of God. She received the GIFT of SALVATION and was baptized at an early age at Saint James Baptist Church in Beland, OK, under the leadership of Rev. N.N. Lee. Later she became a member of Dean's Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Mason, then Rev. Don Dumas. She was an usher and a member of the Baptist Women's Circle, along with helping in the kitchen as needed at the church.
The Love of Her Life
She met a handsome young man, Fred Nunley and the two fell in love. They were united in Holy Matrimony on February 20, 1965 and their loving union was blessed with two children Rodney Nunley, Sr. and Rachelle Nunley. They shared 59 years of marital bliss.
Her Career
Eunice found gainful employment in the field of Retail Sales/Customer Service throughout Muskogee area. She worked over 20 years at Sears Department store. After retiring from Sears, she worked for Nelson's Furniture Store for 15 years. People often remember her smile laughter, joking, and love while enhancing her customer service skills and sales. She never met a stranger; she always had that loving personality and greeted everyone with a smile.
She loved sitting on her porch visiting with her neighbor, sisters, and working in her flower beds. Eunice love visiting, talking on the phone with her sisters and her special friend, Shirley Casey daily. Cooking and baking was one of her many talents. Sunday meals were a big deal in her home, a special homemade dessert would be made with Sunday dinner.
Her Exodus
Mrs. Eunice L. Mackey-Nunley, at the age of 91, decided to take a "flight" into eternity May 22, 2024 in her home, Muskogee, OK. Welcoming her as she walks through Heaven's gates will be her parent's Robert and Heniretta Mackey, Sr., husband Fred Nunley, son Rodney Nunley, Sr., siblings Senna, Robert Mackey, Jr., Valentine, Arnell, Alneeta, Willie, Evelyn, and James.
Her Inheritance, Her Legacy
She leaves to cherish all fond memories and her life, a daughter Rachelle Nunley of Oklahoma City, OK; sister Joyce Warlow of Muskogee, OK; two sister-in-law's Effie Milam of Frisco, TX and Marcene Mackey of Tulsa, OK; two grandchildren Trinity Saffold Nunley and Rodney Nunley, Jr. of Oklahoma City, OK; and one great grandson Kai of Oklahoma City, OK; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family members.

"Forever In Our Hearts"
A Celebration of Life will be on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 10:00 a.m., Deans Chapel Baptist Church, 1119 S. Junction St., Muskogee, OK, with Rev. Larry H. Smith, delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
Visitation will be Thursday, 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm.
