Bell Childs
July 16, 1935 – July 14, 2021
Lula Bell Thomas- Childs was born in Batesville, MS on July 16,1935 to the late Stanley J. Thomas Sr. and Minnie L. Griffin-Thomas. She was one of thirteen born from their union.
Lula Bell accepted Christ at an early age at the Concord Missionary Baptist Church.
Later on she was joined in holy matrimony to the late Mark D. Childs and spent 47 1/2 years married before his passing in 2000.
During their time together they moved to Chicago, IL before settling in Tulsa, OK 1955. She became a mother to her 3 children Joseph Bernard Childs (Deceased), Linda Sue Childs (Deceased) and Wanda Faye Childs (Tulsa, OK)
In 1980, they settled the residency in Oktaha, OK where she joined New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Ted Fulson. During her time she served as the Sunday School Teacher and Adult Class Teacher. She later became ordained as a minister and continued to serve God. She was also in nursing for 20 years where she served the community. Her most beloved hobby was quilting. She stitched with love and would often give away what she had made.
She precedes in death with eleven of her twelve siblings. Lula leaves behind her sister Wilkie Heinz of Batesville, MS, her devoted sister- in-law Amie Thomas, her companion of 20 years Vernon Walker (Oktaha, OK), one daughter Wanda Faye Childs (Tulsa, OK), eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Saturday, July 24th at 11:00 a.m. in New Hope Baptist Church, Oktaha, OK with Pastor Micheal Logan, eulogizing. Interment in Concord cemetery, Batesville, MS. At the request of family the casket will remain closed.
The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Home.
