Evelyn M.
(Scott) Shields
December 4, 1963 – December 8, 2020
In Muskogee, Oklahoma on December 4, 1963, a beautiful green-eyed baby girl was born to Carrie Jean Embry and David L. "Busta" Scott. She was the last of four children and they named her Evelyn Marcelina Scott.
Evelyn's childhood was spent in Reeves Addition in Muskogee. It was there that she attended church, confessed her belief in Christ, was baptized at an early age at Macedonia Baptist Church, and where she was a member until her death.
Evelyn, being the youngest of her siblings was the pride and joy of her older brothers and sisters. They were very protective of her and watched over her closely, along with their mother.
Evelyn was very active in school and academically she excelled in her studies. To keep her busy after school, Evelyn's mother enrolled her in the YMCA. While there, Evelyn sharpened her skills as a swimmer. Known for this gift, she worked several years with the City of Muskogee as a lifeguard.
While in high school Evelyn worked as a waitress at the world famous Slick's BBQ in Muskogee. She would continue to work until she graduated in 1982 from Muskogee High School. Upon graduation she attended Connors State College in Warner, Oklahoma where she was very active in a number of social activities, but the one she loved and flourished at the most was being a cheerleader. In 1984, Evelyn graduated from Connors with her AS degree in Education. Upon completion at Connors, she transferred to Northeastern State University and obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education.
Evelyn met and married Brian K. Shields in 1990. To this union, their daughter, Tori Brooke was born. Brian transitioned from this life in 2016.
About five years ago, Evelyn's health began to fail, causing her to retire. She was loved and cared for by her daughter, Tori.
On December the 8 th , 2020, God saw that she was tired and He called her home to rest. She is preceded in death by her Father, Mother, her sister, Jean Harrison, and brother Cleophus Griffin Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memories her only child, Tori Brooke Shields, two grandsons Jerry & Jace Drew, her brother Tyree Griffin Jr., (Muskogee), nieces, Nicole and Natasha Johnson (OKC), niece, Jamie Harrison Johnson (San Diego, CA), nephew, Corey Harrison (Midwest City). Evelyn leaves many other beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
