Obituary

Rev. Florean Wright, 80, minister and retired educator, a resident of Muskogee, OK; passed away, August 1, 2014 in St. John Medical Center.

A beautiful baby girl entered the world October 27, 1933 to the union of James C. & Beulah L. Allmon, they named her Florean Joyce.

Florean was reared in Taft, OK; where she received her early education and her spiritual foundation. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at an early age under the pastoral guidance of Rev. Bridges.

Florean graduated from Carter G. Woodson High School, received he Associates degree from Bacone College; BA, BS, and Master's degree of Education from Northeastern State University; where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi. She attended Liberty Bible College, becoming the first female ordained minister in Oklahoma in 1973 and was a member of Ministers Union in Haskell, OK. She went on to have a 20 year teaching career that started at DuBois Elementary School and ended at Alice Robertson Jr. High. Although her career ended, her love for teaching kept her going by continuing to teach Adult Education classes and private tutoring through 2014.

After being ordained, Rev. Wright served as the Assistant Pastor of Little Rose Baptist Church, under Rev. M.O. Ledbetter. She served as Interim Pastor of Canaan Baptist Church, Assistant Pastor and Pastor of Coal Creek Baptist Church. She was also secretary at Granger-House of Winn Funeral Home, a position of which brought her a great deal of joy.

In 1951 she married James G. Harrison, to this union six children were born. This union was later dissolved and in 1974 she met and married the love of her life, Rev. Eugene M. Wright. This union was held in place by love until 2003 when God called him home.

Florean was preceded in death by her parents, James and Beulah, brother Robert, sisters, Helen, Jessie, Hazel, and Thelmar, grandson, Michael and beloved husband, Eugene.

She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her home-going, one sister, betty (George) Willis of CA; children, Pamela (Jerry) Wells, Patricia Alexander, Robert Harrison, Portia (Craig) Graham, Ray Harrison, all of Muskogee, OK; Peggy (Jerry) Bickham, Beaufort, SC; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A Home Going Celebration will be conducted, Friday, August 8, 2014, 9:30 a.m., St. Mark Baptist Church, 1020 S. 2nd Street, Muskogee, OK; with Rev. James D. Jones, eulogizing. Interment will follow in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, 1:00-6:00 p.m.
