August 20, 1935 – June 6, 2017
A girl was born to Roosevelt Sr. and Vanaustine McGriff August 20, 1935 in Eufaula, OK. She was the second of four children, one boy and three girls; Roosevelt Jr., Barbara McGriff and Pearlie McGriff. She was a kind, soft spoken but out spoken and loved her nieces and nephews.
Fran was reared in a small community east of Eufaula, Whites Chapel. She accepted a hope in Christ at an early age under the Pastorage Rev. Whited. She attended White's Chapel grade school until the 8
th
grade and graduated Booker T Washington High School in Eufaula. After graduation she worked as a provider and on the farm, milking cows and feeding chickens, all sorts of chores. In 1959 the family moved to Checotah where she untied with Eastside First Baptist Church under the Pastorage of Rev. Hughes and worked as a cook for the Douglas Grade School.
In 1965 she married James Toliver and moved to Oklahoma City, OK. In 1966 she had a bouncy baby girl Letha (Jodi) was born. She later moved back to Checotah and reunited with Eastside First Baptist Church where she served as clerk, usher, and numerous other positions. She worked at the Senior Citizen Center for 45 plus years as a head cook, dishwasher, bottle washer, book keeper, and any position that needed attention. Her health began to fail and she missed days during hospital stays. She always managed to get to work even sick.
In February her health started to decline and after extensive hospital stays being tired and weary from the battle she was finally called home on Tuesday June 6, 2017 in Checotah, OK, to be at rest and free from all pain and in peace for eternity.
Preceding her in death were her parents, aunts, uncles, brother, Roosevelt (Mac) McGriff, husband, James Toliver and sister, Ollie Pearl Osborn.
She is survived by daughter, Jodi and son-in-law, Curtis, granddaughter, Kirbi; great grandson, Ellis; sisters, Barbara Christopher, Topeka, Kansas; Pearlie McGriff, Checotah, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Service is scheduled Saturday June 17, 2017, 11:00 a.m., Eastside First Baptist Church 411 NE 4th St, Checotah, OK with interment to follow in Cathey Cemetery, Eufaula, OK.
Visitation will be Friday June 16, 2017 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Eastside First Baptist Church 411 NE 4th St, Checotah, OK
