Obituary

Gwendolyn McGill passed away in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, at the age of 75.

Gwen was born on September 26, 1943 in Eufaula, Oklahoma to Naomi (Beasley) and McClinton Willie. She was the youngest of two children. Gwen grew up in Eufaula where she attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.   After High School, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri where she attended St. Louis University for one year. Here she met Tommy Watkins. They were married on Jan 2, 1964.   From this union four children were born; Myron, Tommy, Kendall, and LaTonya (Toni).

Soon after their marriage they moved to Los Angeles, CA. Gwen became employed with Hughes Aircraft Company and later became Executive Secretary to the Chief Executive Officer of Hughes Aircraft. She held this position for over 15 years before moving to Cedars-Sinai Hospital where she worked as Executive Assistant to the Director.

Gwen McGill accepted Christ as her Savior early in life at Dickerson Chapel AME Church in Eufaula. She was very active in her church and served as pianist for both Sunday school and Church services until she moved away. She later converted to the Catholic Church before her marriage to Tommy Watkins.

After an unfortunate divorce and some time alone, Gwen met her soulmate, Billy McGill.   "Babe" (as she called him,) and Gwen were married from October 12, 1976 until his death on July 11, 2014. They were as close and dedicated to each other as two people could be for all those years.

Although Gwen was known for her keen whit and sharp tongue, it was her soft and loving heart that was most noteworthy. She was loved by all who knew her. Her hugs, infectious smile, and great sense of humor captured the hearts of many.

She was proceeded in death by her husband: Billy McGill, and parents: Naomi Willie, McClinton Willie.

She is survived by her children; Myron Watkins of Santa Clarita, CA., Tommy Watkins (Francis Watkins) of Rancho Cucamonga, CA., Kendall Watkins (MayLeen Watkins) of Tyler, Texas, and LaTonya Watkins, of Tulsa, OK.; grandchildren: Ryan, Jordan, Kennedi, Glisse', Genelle, and Tommy's stepsons; Dennis, and Kevin;   brother: Winfred Willie of Edmond, OK.; and a host of cousins and friends.

A Memorial Service is scheduled, Monday, October 15, 2018, 1:00 p.m., New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1715 Wewoka Street, Muskogee, OK; Rev. Lester Beasley offering Words of Comfort.
