Helen Frances (Levi) Davis, age 89, a resident of Fayetteville, NC and formerly of McAlester and Muskogee, Oklahoma; passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early morning hours on February 23, 2019 in Fayetteville, NC surrounded by her family.
Helen was born on January 11, 1930 in McAlester, Oklahoma; she was the daughter of the late Mose Levi and Nellie Gibson Levi. She was the thirteenth and last child born to her parents.
Helen graduated from L'Overture High School, McAlester, OK in 1948 and went on to college to complete her degree in nursing. After graduation from nursing school, she met and married Paul Davis from California, Missouri; they had one daughter, Beverly. She was a Registered Nurse for almost 30 years in California, Missouri. She retired from nursing in 1975 to return home to Muskogee, Oklahoma to care for her mother.
Helen's passion and delight were spending time with her family and friends. She was lovingly called "Big Mama" by all of those who knew and loved her. Her home was always filled with the smell of homecooked meals, desserts and rolls prepared from scratch as she walked around with her red apron on. She never had an empty house; it was filled with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of the family. Helen loved to listen to Rhythm and Blues and her favorite artist was B.B. King. You could always count on hearing his music playing in the house. She loved to dance and taught all of us around her to love to dance.
Helen's faith in the Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ is the strongest and most devoted that we have been blessed to witness. She read her bible daily and faithfully. When, she was able to go to church, she went faithfully and enjoyed teaching the bible to the youth of the church.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents: Mose Levi and Nellie G. Levi. She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Paul Davis.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Bo Willie Levi, George William Levi, Bert William Levi, Vicey Levi, Myrtle Levi–Robinson, Nevada Levi–Redway, and Edna Levi.
