Herbert Smith
Jr.
April 26, 1945 – April 3, 2020
Herbert Smith Jr. was born on April 26, 1945 to Mable Mitchell- Foster and Herbert Smith Sr. He was a resident of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and educated at Dunbar Schools.
On October 25 th , 1963 he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving three years, he discharged on December 14, 1965. That next day Herbert decided his duty and honor to serve his country was to re-enlist on December 15, 1965. During this time he fought in the Vietnam War. His military occupation was a Medical Specialist, until his final discharge on February 2, 1975.
Later in life, on September 22, 1969 he married the love of his life Lynda Faye Owens- Smith. In their loving union they was Blessed with two children, a daughter Carla Denise and son LaMar Ray Smith. Herbert also had a special place in his heart for his first granddaughter DeAundrea Denice.
Herbert was a proud Retired US Army Veteran who had many stories to tell anyone he met. To his family he was known as "Papa'. He loved being around his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who he had spoiled rotten.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Lynda Smith. Parents Mable (Nadier) Foster, Herbert (Mildred) Smith; grandparents, Bell and Anna Mitchell, and Thomas and EmmaLee Smith Sr.; granddaughter Sharray Smith, grandson Thomas Griffin; sisters Helen Williams, Sharon Arterberry, Dianne Smith; brothers Rickey Smith Sr, Kevin Smith, Phillip Foster, and several aunts and uncles.
Herbert leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter, Carla Denise (Ricky) Lewis; his son, LaMar Ray Smith ; grandchildren, DeAundrea, Ta-Keisha, Thessaly III, Carlissa, Ricky Jr, Kennedy, Kendrick, Devan; great-grandchildren Allen III, Alijeh, Jayceon, Karmoni, Kyrie, Bent'Leigh, Tyson, Iyanna, Ariana, Diondre', Joshua; siblings Linda Foster, Anna Joseph) McGriff, Mary Whittaker, Dionna Smith, Raina Kaye (Patrick) Overstreet, Gerald Smith, Michael (Dorcas) Foster Sr, Terry (Maria) Foster; three aunts Emma Montgomery, and Mary Mitchell, Beatrice Smith; special cousin Amos Cowans; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
STATEMENT
At this time there will be PRIVATE family burial
Visitation, will be Wednesday, April 8, 2020, beginning at 1:00 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Precious Memories Chapel of House Winn Funeral Home-Okmulgee.
