LIFE & TIMES OF HERBERT SR

Herbert Lewis, Sr. was born on October 31, 1936, in Kusa, Oklahoma. He was the cherished 6th child of Mary Bell (Bruner) Lewis & Preston Lewis, Sr. And by 1961, with the union of Mother Ernestine (Turner) Lewis, the Lewis family had grown to a total of 18 loving & hard-working brothers & sisters.

Herbert's journey of service and loved continued when he enlisted in the US Navy, where he displayed his bravery and passion as a skilled boxer. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his hometown of Okmulgee, OK, and embarked on a new chapter in his life. He found love and happiness in first union to Nell Marie Smith; and together, they were blessed with three beautiful daughters, Cynthia, Janis, and Tracie.

In the course of his life journey, Herbert found love once more when he married his second wife, Thedorice "Peaches" Thomas. Their union brought three sons into the world, Herbert Jr., Stefan, and Julius, filling their home with laughter and love.

Herbert was not only a devoted family man, but also a dedicated worker. He served his community as the Street Maintenance Department Supervisor; a master at operating heavy equipment including road graders, backhoes, and excavators for the City of Okmulgee, for over 25 years, contributing to the betterment of the place he called home.

Herbert had a passion for westerns and possessed a knack for fixing cars; skills he shared with those around him. Yet, his greatest love was his family; and he cherished every moment spent with his children, grandchildren, and extended family members.

In his passing, Herbert Lewis, Sr., reunites with his beloved parents Preston Sr., Mary Bell Lewis and Ernestine Lewis, daughter Cynthia, siblings Kenneth Ray Lewis, Preston Lewis, Jr., Albert Lewis, Wilbert Lewis, Clarice Lewis, Linda K. Johnson, James Lewis, Sterling Lewis, Sr., Jerry Lewis, Pauline Brinkley, and Helen Figures.

He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, care, and warmth. Herbert will be deeply missed by his children, Janis Lewis, Tracie Lewis-Creighton (Dorence Sr.), Herbert Lewis, Jr. (Michele), Stefan Buckley-Lewis (Chris), Julius Lewis (Dominique), brothers Leonard Lewis (Sharon), Steven Lewis, Derrek Lewis (Lana), sisters, Lurline Owens, Iretha Rice (Bees), Cheryl Harrison (Ronald), 1 special Buddy, in his grandson, Wayman, and several more adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and others who affectionately called him, "Uncle Herbert."
