Obituary

Herman Williams, age 85, a resident of Muskogee, answered the heavenly fathers call, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014.

Herman Williams was born to Ernest and Idabel Williams on May 17, 1929 in Hope, Arkansas. He was the second child born to this union. He attended the public school system in Waldo, Arkansas.

Later he met the love of his life, Bessie Criner and they were married January 26, 1950. To this union were born to lovely children, a daughter whom they named Betty and a son they named James.

Sometime later Herman and Bessie heard Robert James preach in Waldo, Arkansas and they obeyed the gospel and became members of the Church of Christ.

The Williams family moved to Muskogee, OK; in 1957 and placed their membership at the 18th and Denison Church of Christ. He was a faithful member and attended and worked in the church until his health started failing him. Herman served as church bus driver, song leader, teacher, Elder and he was the director of the adult singing group. He always expressed his love for God. Herman's favorite saying was that, "God is good" and "God has smiled on me". He enjoyed going to church, singing, fishing, gardening and playing dominoes.

Herman was employed by the City of Muskogee as a Sanitation Engineer for many years. He retired in 1990.

Herman departed this life on September 14, 2014. He will truly be missed by his family and friends.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Idabel Williams, his brother, Freddie Williams and sister, Alzola Payne.

He leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 64 years, Bessie, of the home, daughter, Betty (Worley) Holmes, Tulsa, OK; son, James (Rose Mary) Williams, Tulsa, OK; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, Oscar Williams, Kansas City, MO, Ernest Williams, Magnolia, AR, Johnny Williams, Kansas City, MO, sister, Jannie Sue Williams, Magnolia, AR; nieces, nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Home Going service will be conducted Saturday, September 20, 2014, 11:00 a.m., 18th & Denison Church of Christ, Muskogee, OK; with Bro. Eric Rogers eulogizing. Interment will follow in Doyle Cemetery, Yahola, OK.

Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
