January 30, 1938 – October 29, 2024
The fourth of eleven children Ida Madean Kellum was born to the union of Earnest and Ada Kellum in Slick Oklahoma on January 30, 1938.There she attended and graduated from Slick public schools. She received a business administration degree from Midwestern University in wichata falls Texas.
At the age of 18 she met and married the only love of her life Celister Thompson May 18, 1954. To this union were born 7 children Beryl, Louis, Cindy, Darita "Weetie", Robin, Sharahn "Shernie" and Reuben.
Ida enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe with her children while her husband served in the united States Army.
During her travels her and Celister opened a restaurant in Alabama which stayed open until her husband retired and moved to Oklahoma with their children.
While in Oklahoma Ida and Celister opened up a variety of businesses but her first love was taking care of her children and later her grandchildren. Ida enjoyed going fishing and teaching her grandkids how to fish. One of her favorite past times was watching "The Young and the restless" everyone knew not to bother her at 11AM.
Ida accepted the Lord early in life and taught her children and grandchildren the importance of prayer…..if she ever told you NOT to go out to a party …you better not because usually something would happen ,, mom always prayed for us and would pray for anyone…
She was a faithful member and Sunday school teacher for Mt Zion Church of God in Christ. In Okmulgee, Oklahoma
She is proceeded in death by her husband Celister Thompson, her parents Earnest and Ada Kellum her sisters Teresa Kellum, Ada Glover, Haelis Kellum , and Ann Jordan, her daughter Beryls, her son Louis and granddaughter Tiyi Thomas.
She leaves her daughter Cindy Douglas (Daron) of Luther, Daughter Darita Thompson of Okmulgee, Daughter Robin Thompson (Derrick Jordan) of Okmulgee, Daughter Sharahn Thompson of Okmulgee, son Rueben Thompson (Lashonne) of Tulsa her grandchildren Phyllip Henry , Shannon Henry , Joseph Henry , and Jhanai Thompson all of California. Rebecca Butler, Raymond Jones, George Carter, Ramona Perry (Stevie), Shade Thomas (Kyla) , Calvin McGriff, Waci Bagby, Darwin Thompson, Delton Bagby, Sachiko McGriff, Rueben Thompson II , Tayliur Martin (Dylan) , Marin Lyles, Marina Butler and Louis Jupiter all of Oklahoma. 17 great grand children and one great great grand child.
Her sisters Earnestine, Betty Joe. Savannah, Pauletta , of California , her brother Earnest Kellum and Ister Lynne of Tulsa Oklahoma ,two sisters in laws Willie Jane Brown and Inez Thompson- Johnson of Okmulgee A brother in law whom she loved dearly, Superintendent Theapolis Thompson of Wichita Falls Texas.
A Home Going service is scheduled Saturday, November 16, 2024, 1:00 p.m., New Beginning Church of God in Christ, 1019 S. Florida, Okmulgee, OK: her brother, Rev. Ernest Kellum, eulogist. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Okmulgee, OK.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
