Iola G. Hill was born July 28, 1927, in Tiger Mountain, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of three children born to Alberta (Starr) Graham and Theodore Graham. Iola accepted Christ at an early age, while living in Tiger Mountain and attending grade school. She graduated from Grayson High School in 1944.
In 1951, Iola moved her family to Okmulgee, Oklahoma, while she moved onto Tulsa, Oklahoma to work on Greenwood Avenue as a waitress at Art's Chili Parlor for five years before moving on to Benny & Ruth's for 13 years.
In August 1964, she moved back to Okmulgee, to purchase and operate B.H. Mann Grocery Store for 12 years before leaving the business in 1976. During this same time period, she operated a food stand at the Okmulgee Invitational Rodeo for 28 years. She also worked as a home/health provider until retiring.
While living in Tulsa, Iola attended the Catholic Church. After moving to Okmulgee, she faithfully attended Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church and was a member of the National Court, Knights of Peter Claver Alfaretta R. Aubry Court No. 55 Ladies organization for over 50 years.
Iola passed away Thursday, June 4, 2020, at her home in Okmulgee with family by her side, at the age of 92.
Iola was preceded in death by her parents; husband Herbert Hill; brother Willie Graham; sister Mae Graham; son Theodore Ford; and daughter Netheria Rochelle Laremore. To cherish her memories, Iola leaves seven siblings Edna Hawkins, Ruth Graham, Johnny Graham, Vicki Graham-Jones, Donnie Graham, Ronnie Graham, Idella Graham-Jones; daughters Earnestine Ford-Sheared (Ottoway), Betty Moore-Ferguson, and Kim Williams; and sons Earnest Ford, Lloyd A. Durham, Jr. (Kim), Kenneth Williams; adopted son Willie Griggs; seventeen grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, great, and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Mass celebrated, Saturday, June 13, 2020 at 12 noon, in St Anthony's Catholic Church, 515 S. Morton St. Okmulgee, OK, with Father Josh Litwack, as celebrant. Public visitation, Friday, 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M., the Rosary will be recited, Friday, June 12, 2020 at 6:30 P.M. in Precious Memories Chapel of House of Winn Funeral Home-Okmulgee. Interment will be in Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Monday, June 15, 2020 at 11 a.m.
