James Lee Duty III, age 60, a former resident of Vernon, OK, transitioned, Thursday, August 17, 2023 in Marshall, TX

James Lee Duty III was born on August 26, 1962, to James and Verneva Duty in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a member of Morningside Missionary Baptist church where he accepted Christ at an early age.

He was a graduate of the O.D. Wyatt class of 1980. He attended Wiley College and later enlisted into the United States Army where he retired as a decorated veteran.

James enjoyed playing dominoes and spades; the former he won a few tournaments. He also enjoyed listening to funk music and barbequing. He was a Mason.

James was preceded in death by his father, James Lee Duty Jr. and one brother, Terrence Corwyn Duty.

James leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, OK Kim Duty of Clarksville, Tennessee; son, Jeffery Lee Duty, (Jessica) of Williamsburg, Virginia; mother, Verneva Parrish Duty of Fort Worth, Texas; brother, Reginald L. Duty (Sharon) of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Dwuna Duty-Richards of Cleburne, Texas, Stephanie Broussard (Ronney) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; one grandson, Jasai Lincoln Duty of Williamsburg, Virginia; a host of relatives and friends.

Graveside rites will be conducted, Friday, August 25, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. in the Duty Hill cemetery, Vernon, OK.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, Military Honors will be provided, public viewing only at cemetery.

The family has been cared for by House of Winn Funeral Home-Okmulgee.
