Obituary

"In That Great Getting Up Morning, Fare Ye Well, Fare Ye Well", James E. Lollis, age 83, resident of Rentiesville, OK transitioned on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 in St. Francis Medical Center, Tulsa, OK.

James Edward Lollis was born July 6, 1938 to Lillie Mae Carr-Lollis and George Lollis Sr. (both predeceased). He was raised as one of eleven children, in the historically Black town of Rentiesville, Oklahoma. He received his formal education at Rentiesville High School and went on to become an entrepreneur in Tulsa before returning to Rentiesville to go into cattle ranching. Upon his return he presided as the Assistant Fire Chief and sat on the town Council for 12 years. He also maintained what we now know to be Lillie Lollis Park. James was a member of the Checotah Roughriders, having rode in parades, and volunteered his time to support the community in various events and activities.

James was loved and respected throughout his life for his comical quick wit, with a laugh that could be recognized anywhere. He enjoyed listening to the blues, playing his harmonica, talking mess over a good game of dominoes, and kicking back to watch his westerns.

He was preceded in death by, six brothers, Clemmie Lollis, Danny Lollis, Dan Lewis Ragsdale, Willis Lollis, George Lollis Jr., Sherman Lollis, and four sisters, Rosie M. Jones, Delores (Delois) Henderson, Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lollis-Byrd and Patricia (Tish) Lollis-Harris

His life and legacy will live on through his son Christian Scruggs (Marlene), his daughters Yashica Titsworth-Lollis, and Natalie Lewis. Six grandchildren Sherwin (Peanut) Scruggs, Amber Scruggs, Christian Scruggs, Marian Lewis, Eric Lollis, and D'ajanae Titsworth, and nine great-grandchildren Donavan Howard, Sebastian Howard, Dakotah Easley, Tristian Scruggs, Jonte Scruggs, Josiah Camp, Destiny Scruggs, Noah Hatley, and Eric Lollis Jr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
