Obituary

In Wichita, Kansas, on June 25 th , 1964 Barbara Smith Bird and Logie Bird, Jr., welcomed their first born child, a son, they named their baby boy, Jerod. When Jerod was two years old, his grandparents, Harold and Gladys Reed assumed the responsibility of raising him due to health issues.

Jerod acquired his education in the Okmulgee Public School system, graduating with the Okmulgee High School class of 1983. During his academic years he showcased his athletic abilities in football and wrestling.

Jerod was given the nickname, "Pete" and everyone knew him as "Pete Bird". He was one of the comedians of the family always having something humorous to say to make you laugh. He enjoyed being with his family. Pete, gave his children and sisters a pet name, "Nerds". He enjoyed life and his latest enjoyment was the casino.

In 2013, Jerod married Shelerisa Lundy. This union was later dissolved.

Jerod was employed at the Okmulgee Terrace Nursing Home as Custodial Supervisor and was loved by the staff and the residents.

Jerod was preceded in death by his grandparents, Logie Bird, Sr., Lorene Jones and Harold Reed, and a sister, Andrea Elaine Byrd.

Those left to cherish his memory are his father, Logie Bird, Jr., Tulsa, OK; mother, Barbara Byrd, grandmother, Gladys Reed, both of Okmulgee, OK; four daughters, Kendra Adams, Oklahoma City, OK; Shavonte Smith, Krystal Smith and Courtney Lewis, all of Okmulgee, OK; three sons, Kevin Barker, Andre Haygood and Aaron Haygood, and step-son, Kelton Patterson, all of Okmulgee, OK; 12 grandchildren, three sisters, Robin Byrd, Tabitha Byrd, Owasso, OK; and Cynthia Byrd, Tulsa, OK; Willia Gene, Bobby Kinard, of Wichita, KS; Beverly and Floyd Brown, Okmulgee, OK;  a host of aunts and uncles, special friends, Anita Barker and Mark Montgomery and numerous other relatives and friends.



A Celebration of Life will be conducted on Saturday, January 7th, 2017, 2:00 p.m., First Baptist Church, 311 West Fifth Street, Okmulgee, OK; with Terrence Reed, eulogizing.  Interment will following in Sharps Memorial Garden Cemetery, Okmulgee, OK.

Visitation Friday, January 6th, 2017, 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
