Obituary

Jo Wanda Moham was born June 13, 1935 in South Muskogee, Oklahoma. Born to the union of Aaron and Lucille Ross, she was the fifth of five children. She transitioned to her final resting place on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in her home at Oktaha, Oklahoma, with her children by her side.

She received her elementary education in the DuBois public school system and her high school education at DuBois High School in Summit, Oklahoma. After attending one year of junior college, she united in holy matrimony to Robert Moham, Jr.

To this union four children were born: Rodney, Terri, Rickey, and Tanya. She loved her children and they loved her with a love so fierce that words cannot describe it. She was one who did not spare the rod. While using her rod she would often say, "This is hurting me more than it's hurting you." This love resulted in four productive members of society. Jo worked several occupations during her lifetime but raising her children was her primary labor of love. She supported and encouraged her children in all their sporting activities and dreams as long as they did not interfere with their education. Over her lifetime, she held various positions of employment including homemaker, teacher's aide, Oktaha Community Center activities coordinator, seamstress, livestock raiser, and gardener.

Coming from a family who loves God, Jo accepted Christ at St. Thomas Primitive Baptist Church in Summit, Oklahoma. She was active in various church ministries, including the women's ministries, vacation bible school, food ministries (she was known for baking sweet potato pies and pound cakes), and anything else that was asked of her. She had a spirit of service.

Jo was preceded in death by several beloved family members including her parents, Aaron T. Ross and Lucille M. Perry-Ross; husband, Robert Moham, Jr.; two sisters, Jacquline Ross and Marie A. Ross-Rucker; two brothers, Perry H. Ross and Marion Ross; and three great-grandchildren, Madeline Peoples and two others.

Living with her many cherished memories are her children, two sons, Rodney (Brenda) and Rickey (Jo Ann), both of Oklahoma City, OK, and two daughters, Terri of Bartlesville, OK, and Tanya of Oklahoma City, OK; three sisters-in-law, Jean (Marion) Ross of San Francisco, CA, Dorothy (Frank) Graves of Los Angeles, CA, and Verna Moham of Oklahoma City, OK; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted, Saturday, June 17, 2023, 11:00 am, Faith Love Baptist Church, 1208 Tamaroa Street, Muskogee, OK; with Pastor Glenn Gardner delivering the eulogy.  Interment will follow in Booker T.
