John Edward Hicks was born on March 15, 1949 in Los Angeles, California, in the waiting arms of Georgia M. Dicks and David L. Hicks. He was the third of six children.

John accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Christ First Baptist Church. He graduated from Gardena High School in Gardena, CA. where he ran track. After graduating from high school, he joined the United States Air Force. After serving his country and returning home, he went to work for MTA Bus Company until retiring.

In 2014, John was joined in holy matrimony to Chavonna Lawrence and remained until his untimely passing in 2018.

In his spare time, he loved hitting the road on his Harley with his bro's, traveling, but most of all spending time with family and friends.

John is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Obera Claiborn.

He leaves to celebrate his life and continue his legacy, his loving wife, Chavonna, of the home,  his children: Quron Hicks of New Orleans, LA., Tekia Hicks and Artista Hicks of Houston, TX., Brandi Hicks of Los Angeles, CA., TaMarra Hicks of Moreno Valley, CA., Demetri Lawrence-Hicks and Ariana Hicks of Okmulgee, OK. His siblings: John Dicks of Riverside, CA., Stanley (Stephanie) Cook of LA Place, LA., Patricia (Terrance) Bennett of Atlanta, GA., Cheryl Busby of Long Beach, CA., Richard Hicks of Oklahoma City, OK, Kathryn Hicks Calabrese of Atlanta, GA., and Veronica Hicks of Oklahoma City, OK., 30 grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

A Graveside Service is scheduled Thursday, March 15, 2018, 1:00 p.m., Ft. Gibson National Cemetery, Ft. Gibson, OK. Military honors performed by Tinker Air Force Base, Oklahoma City, OK.

Visitation will be Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
