Kevin Andre Stephenson, known to many as "Kim" or "Groucho" peacefully passed away on December 14, 2023, in Dallas, TX. He entered life on April 24, 1958, in Kansas City, MO and relocated to Muskogee, OK shortly after.
Kevin was a God-fearing man. He was baptized at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Kevin attended Muskogee High School (Go Roughers) and graduated with the class of 1976. Kevin enlisted in the Air Force in August 1976 where he served as an aircraft electrical specialist. He gained valuable experience and expertise in maintaining and repairing aircraft electrical systems. Once discharged from the Air Force Kevin worked briefly at General Dynamics. Kevin began his career with the United States Postal Department where he held various positions and dedicated 34 year of service before retiring. During his tenure with the postal department, Kevin pursued his passion for refereeing and dedicated 32 years to the Dallas Official Association. He particularly enjoyed watching the Cowboys play. His passion for football extended beyond the field, and he thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an exciting sport.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kevin had a passion for traveling. Many cherished memories were created as he explored new destinations with loved ones by his side. These shared adventures brought him immense joy and enriched the lives of those around him. A dedicated family man, Kevin was a source of unwavering love and support. Kevin loved his family and church family (Dallas Oak Bible Fellowship) where he served as an usher.
Kevin is preceded in death by mother Ellen Gaye Stephenson whom he deeply cherished, father Ben Tucker and his beloved grandmother Lula Edwards.
Kevin is survived by John Stephenson, the man who lovingly raised him and bestowed upon him his name and who will forever cherish the memories they shared together.
Kevin leaves to cherish his memories, his wife Diana Haynes-Stephenson; children Derek Stephenson and daughters Ke'Andra and Tiara Stephenson. Kevin loved all the women in his life, but the legacy wasn't the mothers, it was the kids, Pisami Wilson (Desmond), Zia Harvey (Corderro), Imani Wilson (Louie), Carson A. Haynes; siblings: Kelley Stephenson-Gaines, Ronald Stephenson, Joann Green, Natacha Tucker-Austin (William), Benjamin Allen Tucker (Laticia), Valerie Tucker, Lolita Tucker, Benita Lynnell Tucker-Breshers, Cheryl Tucker-Swift; grandchild: Ace Nathaniel Rowe; 4 bonus grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; 5 special ones: Jimecca Warrior, Joi Peters (Ronnie), Xzavier Roberson, Kaylee Mathenia and Demonetrey Mathenia. Kevin also leaves a man's best friend, his dog Beau Stephenson.
Friends and loved ones are invited to celebrate Kevin's life at Golden Gate Funeral Home in Dallas. The viewing will take place on December 20, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 7:15 p.m.
Visitation in Oklahoma will be Friday, December 22, 2023 from 12 noon until 1:45 p.m. in the Precious Memories Chapel, House of Winn Funeral Home and Cremations, 2200 Military Blvd, Muskogee, OK.
Interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK at 2:30 p.m. Military honors performed by the United States Air Force.
