Lavander (Sonny) Hood
On October 29, 2021, our Heavenly Father allowed the storm of life to pass over Mr. Lavander Hood better known to family and friends as "Sonny".
Lavander was born on February 5, 1947, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Thomas and Vina (Walker) Hood.
In his later years he became a member of Greater Jones Chapel AME Zion Church.
Lavander attended several schools during his lifetime, Rosenwald and Banneker Elementary and graduated from the Historical Dunbar High School in 1965. He also attended Langston University, Grambling University and Conners State College with a Master's degree in Sociology.
He loved all sports, his favorite teams were the Baltimore Ravens, Oklahoma Thunder and the Dodgers.
Lavander was a custodian for the Okmulgee Public Schools for twelve years before his retirement.
His parents along with his nephew Orlando (Spud) Waller preceded him in death.
Lavander leaves to cherish his memories: a son, Durrane (Tweet) Hood, Okmulgee, OK, two sisters, Barbara Gale (Hood) Waller, Okmulgee OK, Darlene (Hood) Alexander, Oklahoma City, OK, two aunts Willie Mae Hood, Okmulgee, OK and Ernestine Figures, Oklahoma City, OK, one nephew Chuck Alexander and a niece LaTisha Miller, Oklahoma City, OK, Three grandsons, Damien, Trevon and Aries and a family friend Alicia Jones. Along with a caravan of other relatives and friends.
A Service of Memory will be conducted, Saturday, November 6,2021 at 2:00 P.M. in Greater Jones A.M.E. Zion church with the pastor Rev. Terry Howard,eulogizing. Interment will follow in Sharps Memorial Gardens in Okmulgee, OK. Public visitation, Friday, Nov. 5th in the Precious Memories Chapel/House of Winn Funeral-Okmulgee during the hours of 1:00 P.M.-5:00 P.M.
