Lavern Hampton, 75, educator, a resident of Okmulgee, OK; transitioned into her heavenly home, Saturday, November 28, 2015 at Rebold Nursing Home.
Lavern Louise Cherry was born August 30th, 1940 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to the union of Louis and Ladelle (Fuller) Cherry. She was the eldest of six children.
Lavern professed a love for Christ at an early age. She was a member of Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church.
Lavern attended Catholic School for her primary education and went on to graduate high school in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and continued her education at University of Arkansas at Pine then onto Oklahoma State University where she received her Master's Degree in English. She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
She met and married the love of her life, A.W. Hampton in 1968 and to this union they were blessed with a son. They named him Alan.
Lavern began her career teaching English and French at Dunbar High School and continued at Okmulgee High School until she retired.
She was a people person, always willing to help someone, always wanting to serve in some capacity and always wanting to teach.
Lavern went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 28, 2015.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband and a brother, Howard Cherry.
Lavern leaves to cherish her memory, a son, Alan Hampton, of the home, two brothers, Fuller Cherry, Davis Cherry, and two sisters, Gladys Cherry, and Veloria Watley, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas along with a host of other relatives and friends that will miss her.
The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, December 5, 2015, 10:00 a.m., in Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church, 303 E. 3rd St, Okmulgee, OK. Interment will follow in Okmulgee Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
The Rosary will be recited at 6 P.M.
