Lawrence W.
Morgan Sr.
May 26, 1941 – March 10, 2023
Lawrence was born May 26,1941 in Okmulgee County, OK to Homer, Jr. and Mae Ella (Dixon) Morgan, and was the 3rd of 11 children. He was raised and attended school in Okmulgee County, Ok and was a graduate of Grayson High School. Lawrence accepted Christ at an early age and remained faithful until the end of his life. He was head Deacon while a member of both Harris Baptist Church and later at Antioch Baptist Church.
Lawrence met and married Alma June Hawkins and together they raised 5 children; Lenora, Lawrence, Jr., Jan, Darron and Dale. He also had a hand in caring for his nephews and nieces.
Lawrence was a hardworking, strong, man who loved his family and friends and was deeply devoted to them. While in high school, he helped provide for his family by driving the school bus for Liberty Morris and Grayson High Schools. He later was employed with Oklahoma Steel Casting Company as a steelworker and was promoted to shop foreman before he retired.
Lawrence worked hard, but he also enjoyed his life. He loved being outside, fishing and hunting; there are a lot of stories about deer and raccoon hunting with his brothers, sons and friends. He also loved barbecuing – you just had to ask what type of meat he was grilling (bison, deer, goat, turtle, raccoon, or even armadillo) before you ate it.
There were other things besides hunting and fishing. Lawrence enjoyed farming and raising livestock. Many days you could find him walking among his herd of registered Limousin cattle or tinkering with his tractor. In his leisure, you could catch him enjoying one of his favorite snacks (ice cream) and watching his beloved Westerns. Still yet, his favorite pastime was stretching out to enjoy a power nap.
Lawrence leaves to cherish his memories: 2 daughters, Lenora (Quinn) Jones of Tulsa, OK and Jan Morgan-Billingslea of Mableton, GA; 3 brothers, Rendell (Sandra) Morgan, Larry Morgan and Jerry Morgan, all of Tulsa, OK; a sister, Josephine Carruthers of Tulsa, OK; brother-in-law, George (Judy) Hawkins and sister-in-law Erma Taylor, both of Tulsa, OK; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Mae Ella Morgan; his wife, Alma June Morgan; and sons, Lawrence Walter Morgan, Jr., Darron Anthony Morgan and Derwin (Dale) Alan Morgan and Derwin (Dale) Alan Morgan.
