Lorene
Sanders
April 1, 1928 – December 17, 2023
On April 1, 1928 a beautiful baby girl was born to John Will Walker and Carrie Ballard Walker, in Muskogee County; she was the seventh of eighth children.
Lorene received her early education at Peters Chapel Elementary School and graduated from Manuel Training High School. She furthered her education in Salt Lake City, Utah, received an Associate's Degree in Business.
Lorene gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a life time member of Peters Chapel A.M.E. Church.
Lorene married H.L. Wright and to this union four children were born Hilda, Debbie, Pam and Adam. She later married Andrew Sanders, (A.J.) and remained married to him until his death on June 22, 1988.
Lorene worked in various business positions throughout her professional career. Her last professional position was as a Direct Mail Coordinator at Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She retired from Bacone College after over 20 years of service.
Lorene loved her church and served and volunteered in various capacities. She was a member of the Missions Board, a Choir Member, Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, and Church Trustee.
Lorene loved learning and promoting education. After retiring, because of her love for learning and helping others, she became a volunteer for KI BOIS Community Action Partnership as a foster grandparent. She volunteered for over 15 years and received recognition as the "Foster Grandparent of the Year".
On December 17, 2023, Lorene answered the call of our heavenly father, taking her to her final reward. God allowed our family a precious gift for 95 years.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Walker; husband, A.J; siblings, James, Otis, Andy, Joe, Jewel, John; and grandson, Carl Wilkerson, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memories, Hilda (Lynn), Deborah(Carl), Pamelia(Anthony), Adam L.(Rose); bonus children, Greg, "Cowboy", Jerald "Curly", Debra, Andrew, "Jr.", Makhulu, "Mike" and Shawn(Shelly); beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other beautiful family members.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at Peters Chapel AME Church, 7902 W Fern St, Muskogee, OK with Rev. Monica Bailey delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 24th in the Precious Memories Chapel, House of Winn Funeral Home, 2200 Military Blvd, Muskogee, OK during the hours of 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
