January 14, 1929 – October 16, 2021
On January 14, 1929 a beautiful baby girl named Lucille was born in Summit, OK to the union of Odie Malone, Sr. and Doretha Smith Malone. She was the 5 th of 8 children and attended Hall Chapel Grade School and later DuBois High School in Summit.
Early in her life she accepted Christ and joined First Baptist Church Summit under Rev. F. Roberts. In 1951 she met and married Leslie Brown. To this union 7 children were born: Edward, Beverly, Leslie Jr., James, Larry, Cheryl, and Ronnie. The couple remained united for 54 ½ years until his passing in 2005.
In 1962, the family joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Muskogee, Oklahoma. While there she faithfully served for 25 years in various capacities including teaching Primary, Junior, Intermediate, Young Adult, and Senior Sunday School classes; President of the Mission; and Church Treasurer along with husband, Deacon Leslie Brown, Sr. Additionally, she worked tirelessly in the District, State, and National Baptist Conventions for many years.
While in Muskogee, Lucille worked for 15 years for the J.F. Rooney family and for 10 years as a machine operator alongside husband Leslie at the WP Milling Company. In her later years she served as a private duty caregiver.
In 2007, she moved to Tulsa and joined Antioch Baptist Church under Rev. M.C. Potter. She enjoyed being active in Sunday School, Wednesday evening bible study and the Senior Adult Ministry. She also loved fellowshipping with the Carver Senior Citizens group where she had many friends.
In 2010, Lucille married her second husband, Deacon Carl Brooks, Sr. and moved back to Summit. There she became a member of First Baptist Church Summit under Rev. Charles Moore.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leslie Brown, Sr., her parents, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, a grandson, and her second husband, Carl Brooks, Sr.
Lucille leaves to cherish her memory 2 daughters: Beverly Clark (Joseph) of Tulsa, Cheryl Brown-Ferrell (Quincy) of Ft. Worth, TX; 5 sons: Edward Brown of Tulsa, Leslie Brown, Jr. of Oklahoma City, James Brown of Muskogee, Larry Brown of Tulsa, and Ronnie Brown (Stephanie) of Muskogee; a special granddaughter/daughter, Beverly Brown of Ft. Wort, TX; a sister, Myrtle Calloway of Los Angeles, CA; a sister-in-law, Marie Jamerson of Muskogee; 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; the children and grandchildren of the late Carl Brooks, Sr; and a host of family and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly.
God called Lucille home on October 16, 2021.
A Home Going Celebration will be conducted Saturday, October 23, 2021, 9:30 a.m. in Timothy Baptist Church 5530 W Okmulgee Ave., Muskogee,OK with her son Rev. Larry L. Brown eulogizing. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday October 22, 2021 beginning at 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the House of Winn Funeral Home/Precious Memories Chapel- Muskogee.
Casket will be open one hour prior to services Saturday in the church.
