Lucy was the third child of nine born to Jeff and Everlon Lay
Ray. She started her journey on March 30,1938 in a small rural
area in Wagoner County. She was baptized at an early age and
attended Mount Bethal Baptist Church. Lucy began her education
in a one room school called Rock Hill which was run by a man and
his wife-the Bracken's, but continued her education, graduating
from Carter G. Woodson High School in Tullahassee, OK. After
graduation, she married J.L. Bruner and to this union, one child
was born. Later, this union dissolved and Lucy relocated to
Kansas City, MO and completed her training as an LPN. She
worked many years in the healthcare field before retiring.
While in MO, Lucy became a member of Palestine Baptist Church
where she worked with many organizations and served as an
usher. She also met and married William Burns and became the
mother of two step-children. Lucy and her husband enjoyed
traveling home and abroad. When her health began to fail, she
decided to move back to Oklahoma where she was lovingly
cared for by her sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Truman
Marshall. Even with failing health and unable to participate,
Lucy was determined to get back in church. She was blessed to
be able to join Rayfield Baptist Church which she really loved and
was always ready to go no matter how bad she felt. THANK YOU
RAYFIELD FOR ALL THE LOVE GIVEN TO OUR SISTER, and the joy it
gave her just to be a member.
