Obituary

On May 30, 1940, another baby boy was born to McKinley and Carrie Lee (Griffin) Colbert. They name him Mack McKindley Jr. He was the 10 th child born in the Colbert household. Having four older brothers and five sisters he was surrounded with love. He was reared in the Pumpkin Center Community. Mack was raised in a Christian home and confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and baptized at Mo Creek Baptist Church and later settled at the Antioch Baptist Church. He worked in the church and he and some of his siblings sang in a quartet group known as the "Colbert Brothers". Mack was a gifted guitar player. Christian values and strong work ethics were instilled in him and his siblings.

Mack received his primary schooling at the Beckon Light School in rural Okmulgee County, continuing on to graduate in 1961 from the Grayson High School, Grayson, Oklahoma.

As a young man Mack moved from rural Okmulgee to Oklahoma City, Ok. there he began a new journey in life. He became a truck driver and a construction contractor for many years. As a Jack of all trades he kept extra sides jobs. He believed in helping his parents and siblings when called upon because God blessed him to be able to assist them. It was in 1968 Mack met and married Frances Alexander, and one child was born to this union "Vincent Lee Colbert". Years later this marriage was dissolved.

In his journey he never forgot the Lord. His love of singing and playing the guitar afforded him the opportunity to join a gospel quartet group the "Mt. Pilgrim Jubilees" from the Oklahoma City area and he sang and played with the group for over 30 years. The group traveled all over Oklahoma and other parts of the United States. Mack had a unique soprano voice.

Mack enjoyed music, fishing, family gatherings, hanging out with his singing buddies and he took pride in his vehicles, he always kept them (as he put is) "looking slick". Mack sung and played with the group until he suffered a sudden illness in the mid eighties that changed his life forever. He returned to Okmulgee where his sisters and nieces and a devoted friend gave him assistance and watched over his wellbeing. Living back in Okmulgee, Mack was reacquainted with childhood friends and he made numerous new ones. Mack was an easy spirited person until.…. and even with limited assets he tried to help people as much as he was able and everyone that befriended him called him "Unc".

In May of 2016, Mack suffered a major debilitating illness and on March 13, 2018, he was summoned by our Heavenly Father to come on home. He fought a good fight, he finished his course and now as he slumbers in peace with no more pain and disappointments of this world, he awaits that final call on judgment day. The Colbert family circle is complete once again as he joined them who preceded him in death: his parents, Mack and Carrie, his four brothers; Freddie Lee (T-Tot), William, Elza Lee and John Henry. five sisters; Maria Brady (Toy), Juanita Cottrell, Willie Lee (Sista), Florida Mae (Lil'Bit) and Izella Minor (Peaches) and a devoted companion Ruby Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memory; his son Vincent (Ashley) Colbert of Oklahoma City, OK., one daughter; Jacqueline Day, of The Colony, TX. 16 grandchildren; Preston Lee, McKindley Grace, Lyah Ajane, Arianna Leigh, Danika Davis, 9 great grandchildren.a host of nieces and nephews that he claimed as his own children, numerous cousins and friends.

Dad, Grandpa, Uncle Jr., Mack: your family bid you adieu until that great getting up morning.
