December 31, 1938 – December 5, 2022
"Peace in the Valley for Me" Makon A. Brooks, age 83, a long time resident of Okmulgee, OK and veteran of the U.S. Army, transitioned in his home, Monday, Dec. 5th, with family at bedside.
On December 31, 1938, a baby boy was born to Ollie Dean and Vera Gussie (Syas) Brooks. They named that bouncing ball of joy Makon Argustus.
At the age of 12, Makon, with his family, left Oklahoma and moved to Seattle, WA. He furthered his education in Seattle. He enlisted in the United States Army in l962. Makon was a dedicated soldier and received several honors and awards. He earned certifications in Communications, was on the Pistol and Rifle Tactical Team. He was a trained paratrooper serving in the 101 st Airborne Division—Screaming Eagles. Makon's injury at ON K, later resulted in his military retirement and he received an Honorable Discharge.
Makon worked in many capacities on and offshore before starting his own construction and house renovation business.
Makon returned to Oklahoma and built a house at their old homeplace in Okmulgee, OK. He met and married Lonzetta Fonteno. Makon loved to drive, and the couple took numerous long road trips. When they weren't driving to various states they were cruising abroad. Makon also loved "ALL" sports, hunting, fishing, gardening, detailing his automobiles and manicuring his lawn...daily.
Leaving to cherish his memories are his wife Lonzetta of the home; one daughter Demoia Tyeskey Brooks, Seattle, WA; one grandson and one granddaughter, Jimoya and Magnolia Brooks, Seattle, WA; Three Sisters, Gloria Daniels, Evertte, WA; Virginia Thacker, Bremeton, WA, and Narvella Jackson, Seattle, WA: Two Brothers, Larry (Dorothy) Brooks and Glinder Roy Brooks, Seattle, WA; Four bonus daughters, Ursula Fonteno, Okmulgee, OK, Serena Revels, Sylvia and Debbie, Seattle, WA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Home Going Service will be conduced on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at 12:00 Noon in the Precious Memories Chapel, House of Winn Funeral Home, 607 E. Fifth St, Okmulgee, OK with interment at 2:30 p.m. in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
Public visitation will be held on Monday, December 12th in the Precious Memories Chapel-Okmulgee during the hours of 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
